Grainger County Youth Basketball Zero-Tolerance Policy
2016-2017
To ensure a safe and enjoyable playing environment for all players and participants, Grainger County Parks and Recreation has in place, a Zero-Tolerance Policy for inappropriate behavior from Parents, Coaches, Spectators and Players.
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Parents, Coaches and Spectators need to provide a positive example for kids to emulate. The Parks and Recreation Department will not tolerate inappropriate behavior by players, coaches or parents. We ask that you maintain a positive attitude at all events.
- There will be absolutely no disputing calls, during or after the game.
- No yelling at the referees, EVER.
- No criticism, sarcasm, harassment, intimidation, or negative feedback of any kind during or after the game.
- Absolutely No Fighting. This will result in immediate ejection and suspension for the remainder of the season and possible banning from other parks and recreation events.
Coaches/ Parents/ Spectators
-The first offense by a parent, coach or a spectator will result in a verbal warning from the referee or the gym attendant. For offenses that are serious enough, no verbal warning is required.
-A second offense will result in their ejection from the gymnasium. Once ejected, that individual will also be suspended from their team’s next game. For offenses that are serious enough, no verbal warning is required.
-For extreme violations, immediate ejection and suspensions may be issued.
Players
-The first offense is a warning. For offenses that are serious enough, no verbal warning is required and technical foul/ejection is possible.
-A second offense will result in a technical foul or ejection.
-A third offense will result in a second technical foul and ejection from the game.
Failure to leave when requested will result in the game being delayed until the individual has left the gym on his or her own or has been escorted out by local law enforcement or park and recreation employee. Any appeals against disqualification under this policy should immediately be directed to the Director of Parks and Recreation and will be reviewed by the Parks and Recreation department. This action has become necessary due to the reported instances of inappropriate and abusive behavior at some games. In order to provide a safe, competitive environment for all participants, we ask that any individual who feels they cannot refrain from the above-mentioned behavior not attend. The health of our youth basketball leagues depend on the nurture and development of game officials as well as younger players. This policy is not aimed at stifling or diminishing healthy, supportive cheering or the ability of all spectators and parents to enjoy the spectacle of youth basketball.
