I’m writing to request approval to attend Blackboard’s global conference, BbWorld 2017, July 25-27 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Once a year Blackboard brings together thought leaders from around the world for inspiring keynotes, educational sessions, product demonstrations, hands-on workshops, knowledge sharing,and networking.

The 2016 sessions were the highest rated in BbWorld history. There were over 2,000 attendees representing 900 institutions from 34 countries. With tracks and workshops specific to my area, I'll acquire practical knowledge from experts in the field.And the number of higher education leaders and educators attending the conference has grown over the past several years increasing mynetworking and professional development opportunities.

Here’s an overview of the benefits of attending:

  • Hands-on workshops where I can build new skills, bring them back to name of institution, and share with my colleagues.
  • Open learning where I can join other like-minded educators and leaders to share and discuss open learning topics and developments, such as Moodle, open content, open source software, etc.
  • Knowledge bar where I can meet 1:1 with Blackboard’s product architects and managers, learn with peers, and get quick tutorials.
  • Tailored conference sessions specific to my role and responsibilities, which are led by other Blackboard clients, partners, and technology experts.
  • Keynotes delivered by thought leaders and innovative thinkers from around the world to help inspire creative thinking and imaginative approaches toward student success.
  • Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for attending BbWorld 2017 (2 CEUs). The BbWorld tracks and programs have been certified by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET)and qualify as internationally recognized for good standards of practice.

I’m currently working on ways to reduce expenses, including Early Bird registration which runs December 5, 2016–April 21, 2017, hotel discounts, ride sharing, and meals with vendors. I’d like to register before it gets too expensive. For the first-time ever, Blackboard has opened registration in December to enable us to use any remaining 2016 budget funds. And on top of this, they have added an Earliest Bird sweetener. If I can register before January 31, 2017, I’ll save an additional $100 with discount code: BbWorld17Earliestbird.

I’ll be sure to submit a post-conference report that will include an executive summary, major takeaways, tips, and a set of recommendations to maximize the return on our current investment in Blackboard solutions. I can also share relevant information with key personnel throughout our institution.
