How do I know what classes I need to graduate?

Your Academic Requirements list the requirements for your major and let you know which requirements are complete. You will sometimes hear this referred to as a Degree Audit.

There are two parts to checking to see if you have completed your requirements to graduate. First you will need to check your Academic Requirements and then you will need to check your unofficial transcripts.

To get to your Academic Requirements log into your MyDaytonaState Account.

Once you log in use the “My Academics” link on the left side of the page.

From there pick the link that says “Planning and Progress” and then “My Academic Requirements

Here is an example of part of an Academic Requirements page for a student in an Associate of Arts (AA) degree program. The requirements for other majors will work the same way but will list the requirements that are specific to your major.

Note: If your Academic Requirements page comes up with a different major from the one you want you need to see an Academic Advisor for Assistance.

Student seeking an Associate of Arts degree or a Bachelor’s degree are required to successfully complete two years of the same high school foreign language or two semesters of the same language in college. In the example above you can see that this student completed French.

Once a requirement is complete it will close off like the examples above. It will also say “Satisfied”.

If the area is not complete the course options will stay open. Please see the example below.

All AA majors need to declare their intended transfer school and major to an Academic Advisor. The advisor will enter the information in your record and a list of Prerequisites for the school and elective options will then appear on your degree audit. You need 24 credits of electives to complete your degree. It is recommended that you take the classes needed for your transfer institution as your elective courses so you will be ready to take your junior level classes after you transfer.

BAS majors need to declare a concentration area. The Academic Advising office can help with that process. In addition, the BAS classes for your major you must also complete 18 credits in your concentration area.

Once you are registered in the final classes you need to complete your degree the degree audit will close (see the example below). If you do not successfully complete your final courses it will open back up and show that the courses are needed for graduation.

The following are requirements for the Degrees/Certificates at DSC.

All programs require a 2.0 or higher cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) and a 2.0 or higher Daytona State GPA.

Certificates – Number of required credits vary. At least 15% or your classes must be taken at DSC. All classes for the certificate must be met.

Associate of Science degrees – All course requirements must be met. All programs require at least 60 credit hours and at least 15 of those credits must be taken at Daytona State College.

Associate of Arts degree – All AA students must have a minimum of 60 college credit hours to graduate. 36 credits of general education courses are required. SLS1122 and Foreign language (unless taken in high school) are also required and are counted as elective credits. The general education courses include 9 credits of communication, 6 credits of mathematics, 6 credits of science, 6 credits of humanities, 6 credits of social sciences, and a 3 credit of Cultural Global class. All General Education courses must come from the list on your Academic Requirements.

In addition to the General Education 24 credits of electives are required. Your Academic Advisor will ask you which University you plan to attend and what your major will be. Then they will add a subplan to your record. It will list any prerequisites that are required for your university major. It is highly recommended that your elective courses come from this list. Without the required prerequisites for your major some universities will not admit you even with your AA degree. Others will let you in but you will be required to take the prerequisites before you can start the program.

If you do not wish to take the courses on the prerequisite list or there are no prerequisites for your intended major there is another list available for you to choose electives. Once you have taken or registered for 24 credits of electives your subplan will close out and you will not be able to add additional electives.

Bachelor’s Degrees

Bachelor of Applied Science: To graduate from the BAS program you must have earned a minimum of 120 credits and have at least a 2.0 GPA. These credits will include but are not limited to: 36 credits of general education, either two years of the same foreign language in high school or two semesters in college, your required program courses, and a concentration area. An Academic Advisor can help you figure out which concentration are you should pursue and add it to your record. Some student’s complete all of their courses and do not have the minimum 120 credits. That is because some of your classes double counted. In that case you can take any college credit class(s) as long as you have the prerequisite. You should double check your earned credits on your official transcript.

Bachelor of Science in Education Degrees: Since most students in this program already have an AA degree and have already met the foreign language requirement you will only need to take the required classes for your program. Once you complete those classes you should have already met the 120 credit hour requirement. Students in the BSED are required to have a minimum of a 2.5 GPA to graduate.

Bachelor of Science in Engineering Technology/Electrical Engineering Technology/ and Computer Information Systems: These programs have 128 credits built in. These credits include the 36 credit hours of General Education courses, two years of the same foreign language in high school or two semesters of the same language in college, and the program courses for your major. You must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA to graduate from this program.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO CHECK YOUR UNOFFICIAL TRANSCRIPT TO MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE REQUIRED GPA AND EARNED CREDITS TO GRADUATE. THIS IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY!

To check your Unofficial transcripts go to: My Academics – Records – View Unofficial Transcript on you MyDaytonaState Portal.

The page will look like this:

If you are in a College Credit Certificate, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, or Bachelor’s degree choose Unofficial College Credit from the drop down menu. Then click on the “View Report” Button. If you are in a Vocational Certificate or Adult Education program choose the appropriate program from the drop down menu.

At the very bottom of your unofficial transcript you will see the totals. Please note, if you have classes on your schedule for future terms or are in classes now and the grades have not been posted these classes are not counted in the number of credits on the Unofficial transcript or in the GPA.

This is what you will see on the statistics line of your unofficial transcript:
