The New York AIDS Film Festival was founded in 2003 with the support of H.E Kofi Annan and Mrs Nane Annan at the United Nations Headquaters as the first AIDS film festival the world over. It has continued to be supported by UNAIDS, its mission to educate about HIV/AIDS using film and television as a tool locally as well as globally - also being called to provide key footage in policy making sessions. “ We put a face to the pandemic, you can read that 1 million have died or you can see the story of one person and understand that it is a real human issue” Executive Director Suzanne Engo said. The festival is now transitioning to becoming the New York AIDS Museum which as well as being a physical home for the film festival will expand it’s program to educate, display and commemorate the fight to win the pandemic. Board Director Supermodel Greta Cavazzoni who has been on board from the inception has been strategic in the global expansion and decided to add a fashion element to the annual red ball to celebrate the 5th Anniversary in Style. With new member and co star with Engo MAGGIE RIZER on the team and she’s of the Maggie & Me film project ,which will shoot at the film festival and new youth Ambassador Aubrey O’day from Danity Kane ( MTV MAKING THE BAND) on the case the event is sure to be a smash.
Celebrity walkers from: Naughty By Nature, R & B Sensation Cassie from bad boy, Socialites Tinsley Mortimer and Annabel Vartanian and more and special vip guests who pitched in like supermodel OLUCHI, PAUL MARGOLIN of MARC BOUWER and other vips flying in from Italy for the event such as Golden Graal Director Paolo Monaci and VIPs from FORUM NAZIONALE DI GIOVANI in Rome.
The event will take place at the RIVERHOUSE LUXURY GREEN CONDOMINIUMS discovery center loft designed by David Rockwell. This year the film festival is going green that combined with us wanting to feel like we were inviting friends literally into our home made the Riverhouse luxury condominiums a perfect partner. The building is under construnction and we are looking to build ourselves the synergy and energy was a match” Engo said.
This year festival goers will munch on GREEN APPLES instead of popcorn and draw the links of the importance of the environment on your health. “ You can’t talk about the environment and not discuss AIDS, issues like clean water play a huge role in the equation especially in places like Africa” A spokesperson from the museum added.
Ask Ceo David Kistner of Green Apple Cleaners a supporter of the greening of the festival about how he began he did it for the health of his unborn child.
Also apparently this is why Lauren Bush was a welcome addition as co host as she is a know environmentalist and has worked with the United Nations World Food Programme as a student ambassador to CHAD which lead to her launching her centered with a bag she designed. The WFP is one of ten agencies that make up UNAIDS did you know that ? So it’s environment, it’s hunger it’s AIDS ultimately we really need to start connecting the dots with all of these causes Lauren is an embodiment of that vision.
Other red carpet events of the festival include an Opening Night at the United Nations where it will screen and welcome Mira Nair and AIDS JAAGO as a short and INDIAS Hidden Plague By ASHLEY JUDD, JOSH LUCAS is set to present an award as well as other honorees such a GLORIA REUBEN
