SHELTER RECEPTION/ADMINISTRATIVE VOLUNTEER

Position Description

Mission of Hope House of South Central Wisconsin Hope House, in cooperation with the community, provides shelter, advocacy and education to people affected by domestic violence and sexual assault. Our service are includes Sauk, Columbia, Juneau, Marquette and Adams County. Services are free of charge.

DESCRIPTION OF ROLE

Shelter Volunteer is a crucial contributor to the Hope House. This position assists clients and staff directly by completing everyday tasks and various office duties.

Specific Responsibilities

•Answer phones and transfer call to appropriate staff member

•Manage entries and exits of facility, enforce sign out sheet

•Accept and process donations

•Assist residents with appropriate tasks

•Assist Hope House Staff with office and other house tasks as assigned

•Maintain current knowledge of Hope House policies & procedures

•Document hours worked

•Exhibit positive attitude to residents and visitors of Hope House

•Abide by Hope House confidentiality standards

•Be free of alcohol and drugs when you are on shift and on Hope House premise

•Consistently report and arrive on time for assigned shifts. If you are unable to come, you must contact the Volunteer Coordinator as soon as possible.

•Be sensitive to your own emotional needs and take necessary action to care for yourself.

•Understand and adhere to agency confidentiality and boundary standards.

Time Commitment

Hope House expects the individual in this position to commit to one, four hour shift a week for one year.

Hope House Responsibilities

•Will train Hope House volunteer in necessary skills.

•Will provide on-going training.

•Will be available for support and consultation.

•May be able to provide reference letters after 6 months of volunteering; to inquire contact Volunteer

Coordinator.

Qualifications

•Must be at least 18

•Ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds with non-judgmental attitudes.

•Demonstrate informed sensitivity to the issue of domestic abuse.

•Ability to work independently under the supervision of volunteer coordinator or direct supervision
