1999 BELLOWS NATIONAL FAMILY REUNION
Branson, Missouri
The fourteenth annual Bellows National Family Reunion was held at the Dogwood inn, Branson, Missouri, on June 24-26, 1999. One hundred and four family members from 13 states attended. States represented were:
Alabama, California, Illinois, Kansas, Missouri, Michigan, Nebraska, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania. Texas, and Arkansas.
June 24, 1999: Presidents Roy and Ellen Bellows, of Bolivar, Missouri opened the three-day reunion. Registration of attendees, sign-up for discount shows/rides arid distribution of "Bellows in Branson" T-shirts occurred during the morning session. The Chamber of Commerce presented a gift box and the book, “The Shepherd of Hills to each family in attendance. In the afternoon, attendees were free with many attending shows at the different theaters.
June 25, 1999: President Roy Bellows held the general business meeting. The minutes of the 1998 reunion in Pittsburgh, PA were read and approved. The Treasurer4s report was given with a balance of $1,738.00. New business included discussion of the 2000 Reunion in Lancaster, PA being organized by Presidents elect Gil and Enid Bellows, of Newtown, PA. The 2001 reunion site was left open for discussion in Lancaster PA. Some members mentioned returning to Branson, MO. Also discussed the family tree database being held by Colleen Bellows of Minnesota, widow of Jack Bellows who compiled the database. Susan Bellows Heyboer also presented family lineage. Xyla Bellows Bennet of Elkhart, KS was honored, as it was her birthday. lnez (Warren) Bellows of San Diego, CA gave a comedic rendition of a young Bellows newlywed’s experience in the 40’s in California.
It was noted that traveling the farthest to attend the reunion were the Alonzo Peete family of Buffalo, NY, the Dennis Radley family of Depew, NY and Warren and lnez Bellows of San Diego, CA. The oldest family male member is Pete Bellows of New Mexico (99 yrs.) and oldest family female member is Bernice Hooks of Pittsburgh. PA, (she was in attendance). The youngest Bellows member is Chloe Williams of Oklahoma, 1 year old. The reunion also recognized JoAnn Grove of Norwalk, OH; Joyce Massey of Gadsden, AL, and Dorothea Bellows of Gainsville, TX for attending every reunion to date. The largest family in attendance with 4 children were Gail Williams of Yukon, OK and Alzona Peete of Buffalo, NY, Dorothea Bellows had 8 family members present. Four brothers who helped found the reunion were present: Warren, Austin, Roy and Marvin Bellows. The group also recognized the following former attendees who have past away on the Memory List: W. D. Bellows, Jack Bellow, Fay Bellows, Bob Bennett, and David Snow. It was noted that the May/June 1999 issue of Sew Beautiful featured the daughter of Joyce Massey. The general meeting was dismissed with everyone on their own in the afternoon.
June 26, 1999: The general meeting was called to order. A silent auction was held with families donating items for auction. $635.45 was raised for the treasury. One of the featured items was a crocheted Bellows name place made by Neoma DuBuc of Catoosa, OK
Rolland Bellows of Washburn, IL gave a presentation of the Bellows family located in Stockledge Court (English), Devon, England and the family connection with William the Conqueror, Duke of Normandy. Allan Bellows of Eaton Rapids, MI discussed his family’s lineage in the Lansing, MI area. Pam Hendricks gave presentation on the Bellows families of York County, Nebraska. Ellen Bellows, a professional singer, provided entertainment to close the meeting. In the afternoon, the Bellows group went on the Duck Ride tour of Branson. That evening the reunion concluded with a banquet and Dr. Roy Bellows giving a hypnotism demonstration.
Following the reunion, Dr. Roy Bellows later submitted receipts of $654.51 for T-shirts, mailing and printing expenses for which he was reimbursed. Current treasury balance is $1, 854.24.
