BACKGROUND
The Humanitarian Aid Relief Trust’s (HART) was set up by Baroness Caroline Cox twelve years ago with the mandate to undertake advocacy and provide aid to those who are, or who have recently been, suffering oppression and persecution in various countries across the world. We work with those whose are neglected by major aid organisations, and who are often out of the sight of the worldwide media.
Over its twelve years in operation, HART has established a wide support base involving Churches, schools, universities, individuals, governmental bodies and trusts in the UK and abroad.
The aid programme includes projects in Burma, East Timor, India, Nagorno-Karabakh, northern Nigeria, Sudan, South Sudan and Uganda.
THE ROLE
This is a varied internship that will give you a great exposure into HART’s work and put you in the centre of our relationship with the public and donors. Your role will be split into finance tasks and admin tasks including the following:
Finance
- Processing all postal and online donations on HART’s CRM, ensuring all donors are thanked appropriately and promptly
- Drafting thank you letters for the Chief Executive Officer
- Logging donations on the Salesforce database
- Producing formal receipts for Churches, Trusts and other relevant parties who fund HART’s work
- Handling incoming calls and emails to the HART office, assisting donors with any queries they may have about making donations.
- Processing expense claims on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer
- Supporting the Finance Manager with ad-hoc administrative tasks as and when they arise
Administration
- Answering all phone calls and passing messages onto the relevant colleague
- Updating the shared drive
- Opening and logging the post
- Uploading documents onto the website
- Proofreading documents
- Supporting the Fundraising and Communications Coordinator with ad-hoc administrative tasks as and when they arise
PERSON SPECIFICATION
We are looking for someone with excellent organisational, numerical and communication skills.
QUALIFIATIONS
- Undergraduate degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience
EXPERIENCE
- Demonstrable experience of multitasking
ESSENTIAL SKILLS
- High quality writing skills with excellent attention to detail
- Strong numerical skills
- Excellent telephone manner
- Ability to work well to deadlines with a thorough approach
- Computer-literate (with experience MS Office suite including Excel)
- Ability to work independently using own initiative as well as within a team
DESIRABLE SKILLS
- Experience of working with databases
OTHER
- An interest in NGO/charity work/human rights work
- Understanding of HART’s vision, mission, and a commitment to its objectives and values.
LEVEL OF COMMITMENT
We would require a minimum commitment of 3 days per week for a period of 4 months.
This is an unpaid role, but we will cover travel expenses within London to our office in central London (zone 2).
