Task: Draw a 3 column chart. Select and take notes that a) describe what happened and b) describe the consequences (political, social, economic, cultural). Skip a line or two, and then do the Critical Thinking Question: Which of these events might have had the most impact on European political history (kings, governments, nations, political power)? What are your reasons? (this is a very short paragraph)
Remember: note taking is an act of reduction! Repeat this to yourself 100 times each night before you go to bed.

Task: answer these 4 questions.
  1. What was the Hanseatic League and why, unlike other places, did it began to decline?
  2. Select 2 large states and 2 republics. Explain, using some details, how each gained and consolidated power.
  3. CTQ: Was there much of a difference in rule and power between the large states and republics?
  4. CTQ: Which of the examples—states/monarchies or republics—seemed to be most successful at gaining and consolidating power? What are your reasons?
