Purpose of the post
- Effectively coordinate playwork teams in the delivery of Playing Out 2018 to ensure the smooth running of the project.
- Contribute to raising the profile of play as a whole in the communities in which Playing Out is running
- This post is funded by Conwy County Borough Council, Families First and Local Town and Community Councils
About Playing Out
Playing Out play sessions are fun, playful 1hr 55min sessions run by trained playworkers. The sessions are all about children playing freely and choosing what they want to do so playworkers are there to support rather than to lead. The sessions are for children aged 5 to 14, they are open access which means children can come and go as they please however parents and carers are welcome to stay with children if they want. Main responsibilities:
- To line manage a team of 7 playworkers delivering playschemes across Conwy
- To advertise the Playing Out scheme locally in the communities they are running
- To develop a delivery programme for play sessions across the county
- To develop, organise and prepare required paperwork and systems for the effective delivery of Playing Out 2018
- To offer daily support to playwork teams and ensure best practice through the provision of resources, guidance and training
- To engage with key stakeholders to ensure that session delivery is meeting the needs of the community
- To work in adherence to CVSC policies and procedures including safeguarding
- To undertake monitoring of the project to assess it’s impact and produce a final report
- To maintain and update social media throughout Playing Out delivery
- Support and assist in the delivery of Playing Out training
- To ensure all resources, including van hire, are maintained and assessed regularly
- To undertake Risk Benefit Assessments on the play opportunities available as well as site specific Risk Assessment
- To provide regular updates to the Principal Play Officer and CCBC childcare manager
- To work as a playworker at Playing Out sessions as and when required
- To undertake any other relevant duty required to ensure the effective running of Playing Out
PLAYING OUT COORDINATOR - SKILLS, EXPERIENCE & KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
(E) – Essential(D) - Desirable
EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
- It is desirable that the candidate has a relevant professional qualification in playwork, childcare youth work, early years, social, education or community development. Proven practical playwork or coordination of playschemes experience is valued for this post.
EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience of direct working with children and young people in playwork or a related field (e.g. sport, youth, social, education).(E)
- Proven experience of managing a team of staff(E)
- Experience of involving people from local communities in delivering children’s services (D)
- Experience of working with a range of diverse sectors (e.g. voluntary, statutory, public and private) (D)
- Experience of gathering monitoring information and writing reports(E)
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Demonstrate an understanding of and a commitment to the “playwork principles” and children’s right to play(E)
- Current knowledge of children’s play in Wales and/or UK(D)
- Understanding of open access play and play in the outdoor environment (E)
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing to a variety of audiences (E)
- Ability to work creatively, both using own initiative and as a member of a team (E)
- Be able to demonstrate your ability to consult with children and the wider community using a range of methods.(D)
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures(E)
- Demonstrate an understanding of risk management in playwork provision(D)
- Demonstrate knowledge of, and a commitment to, equal opportunity issues (E)
- Willingness to undertake training and qualifications relevant to the role(E)
- Ability to communicate through the medium of Welsh is highly desirable(D)
- Driving licence and access to own transport(E)
- IT literacy and sound knowledge of using social media(E)
SALARY AND CONDITIONS OF SERVICE
Salary £21,962 37 hour week
Employer contribution towards pension plan.
Annual Leave & Sick Pay in accordance with CVSC conditions.
New entrants shall be subject to a probationary period of 3 months.
Casual car user allowance
One month’s notice is required on either side to terminate employment.
Please note this is a fixed term contract from June 2018 to September 2018
