Thepurpose ofthisdocument isto detailserverconfigurationstandards followed atDHS.
Serverconfigurationsvarydependingonintendeduse(file/peripheralsharing,applicationordatabaseservices,and so forth), andthe numberofconcurrentusers.
NetworkServerRequirements
Allnetworkservers,domains and workgroups, anddomainresources,byfunctionanddefinition,arenetworkcomponents,andthereforearesubjecttostandardsestablishedundertheGovernor’sOfficeofAdministration,OfficeofInformationTechnology(OA/OIT)andDepartmentofHumanServices’(DHS)H-NETstandards.ThefollowingstandardsgovernWindowsdomainstructure,namingconventions,andserverrequirements.
NetworkServerConfiguration
Serverconfigurationhasadirectimpactontheperformanceofboththemachineandthenetwork.Therefore,DHSrequiresthatBISconductatechnicalreviewofallproposedserveracquisitions.Duringthereview,BISevaluateswhetherornottheamountofmemory,sizeandconfigurationofharddrives,andCPUrequirementsaresufficienttosupporttheproposeduse.Toaidinthisreview,supportingdocumentationshouldinclude the estimatednumberofuserswhowillbeaccessingthemachine,andhowthemachinewillfunction--fileandprintserver,applicationserver,domaincontroller,andsoforth.
