Thank you for your interest in applying for the part time Kindergarten Support Worker position at Wairoa Kindergarten. This is a permanent position.
Attached is a list of the types of duties this role involves.
The hours of work offered are:
Monday to Friday 9:00am to 1:30pm (we might from time to time adjust the hours of work to meet the needs of the kindergarten)
The rate of pay offered is $ 15.90 per hour.
Our kindergarten is closed for Term breaks and over Christmas. These are unpaid breaks.
The successful applicant will start Monday 23 January 2017.
This position is critical to the smooth running of the kindergarten and therefore it is essential that applicants are highly dependable and reliable as this provides consistency for both teachers and children. You need to be able to work harmoniously in a team situation and get along well with others.
The person we are looking for should be physically fit, organised, motivated, helpful and respectful of the kindergarten environment and young children present.
As a Kindergarten Support Worker your duties do not require you to be working directly with children. If for any reason however you are required to work with children you will do so under the supervision of the teachers, and will be paid at the appropriate rate for a teacher aide (refer to the teacher aide job description attached).
It is essential you are able to maintain confidentiality at all times.

Kindergarten Support Worker (KSW) Duties
A Kindergarten Support Worker (KSW) is employed by the Association to provide housekeeping and cleaning services at the kindergarten and assist with the preparation of resources for children and teachers to use during the day.
Each kindergarten will determine the work it requires of KSW’s but typically it will include such tasks as:
- Cleaning kitchen area
- Loading/Unloading dishwasher
- Sweeping floor
- Cleaning up spills
- Tidying up areas or cupboards
- Checking and preparing art materials
- Setting out resources for children
- Prepare adult morning tea
- Prepare morning tea/lunch for children
- Wipe down tables
- Wipe down toilets/flush toilets
- Wipe down sinks/basins
- Hang out/bring in laundry or load unload washing machine & dryer
- Prepare fruit for children
- Raking sandpit
- Packing up equipment (indoors/outdoors)
- Dusting
- Making up play dough
- Covering books
- Laminating
- Displaying artwork
- Safe storage of cleaning products
- Any other task as directed
The KSW is NOT responsible for:
- Sole supervision of children
- Disciplining children
- Administering first aid
- Changing children’s clothes
- Giving advice to parents or caregivers
- Teaching of children
- Toileting of children
Confidentiality is essential – teachers’ conversations and documentation must remain confidential at all times.
This position is physically demanding (involves lifting, stretching, bending and standing) so a good fitness level is a must.

JOB DESCRIPTION & PERSON SPECIFICATION
TEACHER – AIDE
Teacher – Aides are untrained staff employed by the Napier Association to assist the trained Teachers in their duties.
Teacher – Aides are employed to assist with the children, but will in the course of their day be expected to assist with housekeeping, clearing and cleaning up, putting away of equipment and resources, and any other duties that may be required to assist the Teachers.
TYPICAL DUTIES

6Some supervisory work (for short periods and only in emergencies)
7Resource work / housekeeping etc if a kindergarten support worker is not

1Taking mat time (unless in an emergency)
2Writing up of evaluation sheets
3Record keeping or roll marking
4Collection & receipting of fees or other monies.
5Providing advice & guidance to parents
6Toileting or nappy changing of children
7Administering first aid
