- Site Report
A. Raffertyprovided the following site report:
- Site Operation
The current tipping area is currently in the area known as the summer tip which is in pit 5 with a small amount still being placed in the valley of pit 4 and 5. Rail deliveries of spoil continue to arrive on site up to 3 times a day Monday- Friday.
Site is currently accepting waste trains three to 4 days a week which has reduced as expected and detailed in last meeting
The site will be operational on Saturday after Good Friday for the catch-up for road borne waste however no trains are expected
A trial screening of the IBA (Incinerator Bottom Ash) is currently being undertaken on site with a view to screen the material in pit 6 on a permanent basis. An application for this is being progressed
- Engineering Works
The bund works in pit 6 continue with the placement of material ongoing. It is expected to be completed on time with the estimated completed date of end of May early June.
The additional capping carried out late last year in pit 4 was not completed due to poor weather conditions. The geotextile was placed however the placement of the protection layer of soils was postponed. This has now recommenced and once this has been completed capping will continue in pit 4. These works are to be undertaken in 2 phases with the second phase estimated to start in late summer.
As before once the capping has been completed then restoration soils will be placed and the site will then have a programme of seeding and planting carried out in accordance with the restoration plan
- Leachate
The site continues to work towards 100% compliance with regard to leachate levels as measure against the site’s permit requirements.
In accordance with the approved leachate management plan site had a requirement to remove 3,500m3 per month. Since this approval site has managed to remove in excess of this target (figures below)
Leachate is continuing to be treated by the reverse osmosis (RO) plant
