· Some evacuees were camping at the Lions club in Lakehead on August 1. Not certain if anyone will be staying there again this evening (8/2).

Salt Creek Fire Update: 6pm 08/02/2012
The Salt Creek Fire on the Shasta Lake Ranger District of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest started at 1:38 pm on August 1, 2012 is located on the along Interstate 5 in the Salt Creek and Gilman Road area near Shasta Lake in Northern California. The fire is estimated at 1000 acres in size and is 20% contained. The fire had a moderate rate of spread overnight and continued to move north and east toward the McCloud Arm of Shasta Lake. Approximately 100 structures are threatened and an evacuation advisory is in place for Gregory Creek Estates and Gregory Creek campground, the Lower Salt Creek area, Lakeview Estates to Skyline Drive, and Gilman Road East to Forest Road 35N79 (known locally as Top of the Hill Trail).
Gilman Road is currently closed at I-5. However, people camping in the recreation areas located along Gilman Road are going to be offered a last opportunity to leave through Gilman Road to I-5. These people are being asked to assemble at the Hirz Bay boat ramp upper parking lot at 0630, where they will bemet by a lead vehicle and escorted out to the interstate. Any visitor wishing to take advantage of this opportunity must be at the boat ramp at 0630, and all vehicles will be escorted and out of the area by 0800. Anyone who chooses to stay on Gilman Road will then only be able to exit via Fenders Ferry Road, which is a high clearance vehicle road.
