Cook / Student Support Worker

12 month fixed term Maternity Cover

Salary Point: 17 (£17,534) pro rata per annum - £8.99 per hour

Plus Pension Plan

Hours: Flexible rota - 30 hours per week to include working every other weekend

Daily hours: 8.00am to 3.30pm

This post requires flexibility and capacity to work as required to achieve Vision 21 Cyfle Cymru’s overall aims and objectives.

Responsible to:The Project Co-ordinator/ Instructor

Responsible for:Assistants, Students and Volunteers

Main Responsibilities:

  1. To co-operate with the Project workers in all activities relating to students training and efficient running of the Project
  1. To cater for the Extra Care Schemes residents, meeting their wants and needs, while providing healthy, nutritious meals and varied choice.
  1. To ensure that the individual training needs of the students are met
  1. Play a part in developing people's potential through increasing confidence, self-esteem, making people feel valued and appreciated as individual
  1. Covering the kitchen in the absence of the Coordinator / Instructor

Key Tasks:

  1. Prepare and cook food in quantity.
  1. Direct and coordinate food or beverage preparation.
  1. Complete the daily project specific paperwork requirements. Including HACCP, temperature records, cleaning records, student daily logs, etc.
  1. Plan and price menu items, orders supplies, and keep records and accounts as required.
  1. Participate in checking of all purchased supplies for quality and account for each delivered item.
  1. Actively train, supervise and progress students who are able to benefit from the resources available within the project.
  1. Ensure that the full range of personal and learning needs of students referred to the project are fulfilled in accordance with agreed plans for each individual.

General Tasks:

  1. Support the development of the Catering Project, innovations within the Project and the Assurance of Quality outcomes.
  1. In agreement with the student, set realistic and attainable goals and evaluate the extent to which these goals are achieved.
  1. Undertake regular liaison with colleagues and the students’ carers and support. Consult and involve students to ensure understanding, consistency and empowerment.
  1. Deliver training for, and undertake regular assessment of, students recruited or referred to the Projects. Promote Quality Assurance in all activities.
  1. Use practical, vocational and social skills as an example to students attending the Projects.
  1. Maintain appropriate records in accordance with project requirements and set procedures.
  1. Supervise students, assistants and volunteers assigned to the Project; participate fully in staff meetings and staff development/training programmes.
  1. Assist in the general maintenance of the Project – including decoration, minor repairs and good housekeeping. Adhere to and enforce appropriate Health and Safety, HACCP, COSHH and Fire Precaution requirements.
  1. Maintain confidentiality with respect to Vision 21, its Projects, staffing and students.
  1. Act as an ambassador to promote Vision 21 Cyfle Cymru as a centre of excellence and good practice.
  1. Be familiar with, adhere to and enforce policies and procedures determined by the Management of Vision 21 Cyfle Cymru.
  1. Support the aims of Vision 21 Cyfle Cymru. Undertake any other reasonable duties that may be requested by the Chief Executive or the Board of Trustees of Vision 21 Cyfle Cymru.

Cook /Student Support Worker– Maternity Cover

Essential Criteria:

Qualifications/Education:

A relevant catering and or training qualification.

Food Hygiene Certificate Level 2 / Basic or higher.

Experience:

A minimum of 12 months practical catering experience.

Experience of working with people with either: a learning difficulty or other group with complex needs.

Experience of catering for large numbers.

Knowledge:

Knowledge of appropriate accreditation / qualification bodies.

Knowledge of the learning, developmental and personal needs of people with learning difficulties.

Knowledge of HACCP, COSHH and relevant food hygiene rules and legislation.

Key Skills/Abilities:

The ability to work in a sensitive and enabling manner.

The ability to work to strict deadlines.

The ability to train others and develop as a member of a committed, effective multi-disciplinary team.
