Purpose of Job:
To manage the implementation and quality control of regional large scale projects and agreed local projects by working with partners, stakeholders and wider target audiences in China and the UK to meet the British Council’s strategic objectives
Context and Environment:
The China operation comprises 5 offices based in Beijing, Chongqing, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, and Shanghai, which jointly employ over 500 staff. Our work is structured into 3 main areas: Arts, Education/Society and English language. The Programmes teams comprise of staff whose skill and experience are drawn from all five offices. The teams develop and deliver programmes and projects which provide opportunities for people in China and the UK and build trust.
Internationalising Higher Education (IHE) is an exciting British Council programme. It aims to
support UK higher education in providing a highly competitive edge in the global market and broker
collaboration by bringing together the strengths of our substantive market research, expertise in
developing partnerships, and knowledge of the international student body.
The programme will position the BC as a world authority in the field of International Higher Education
and to position the UK as a global partner of choice. We will deliver a focused and high-value IHE
portfolio which plays to the strengths we bring as a partner, protects and utilizes our intellectual
property, concurrently building on the powerful British Council and Education UK brands.
British Council Services for International Education Marketing ( BC SIEM) is the replacement service
for Education UK Partnership (EUKP). The new service is basedupon a regional model of delivery
with clear financial and delivery targets based around 7 coreservices. BC SIEM is also part of
International Higher Education (IHE) programme – Mobility and Alumni strand and supports the
positioning of the BC as an authority in the field of international higher education and global partner
of choice
The core responsibilities are:
  • Support SBU team and Area Directorate in delivering programmes and projects which meet the needs of China , working with external partners in their development and delivery. This may involve sometimes working outside SBU team to provide support to other teams
  • To support the building of productive networks with contacts operating in China
  • To support the SBU and Business Partnerships teams to deliver on agreements as agreed with partners, sponsors and clients
Other Responsibilities and main duties
  • To report on risk as part of the British Council’s risk management framework.
  • To provide wider financial and administrative support for the project team as requested
  • To ensure accurate recording of all contacts in the CRM system in consultation with Project Manager.
  • All duties are delivered in line with the British Council’s policy on Equal Opportunity and Diversity and EOD is taken into account when planning and delivering activity
