Planning: 1st Block – M, W, F – 8:00–9:35 a.m. T, Th – 8:00–9:20 a.m.
Course Description: Consists of units of study dealing with direct bedside nursing care. Jobs include Registered Nurse, Clinical Nurse Specialist, Nurse Practitioner, Nurse Midwife, Nurse Anesthetist, Forensic Nurse and others.
Course Competencies: A copy of the competencies for this class is attached to this syllabus on pink paper. These competencies must be signed by the student and the parent and returned to Mrs. Jones ASAP. Students will receive a “100” homework grade for returning these the next day and will be deducted 20 points every day they are not turned in. It is a State of Tennessee requirement that Mrs. Jones receive a signed copy.
Supplies: Students will need a three-ring binder (divider tabs are optional), loose leaf paper, and pens/pencils (no red pens/pencils). These items need to come to class every day. This binder is to be used ONLY for Nursing Education. It is recommended that students have a flash drive to save any computer work that we do.
Instructional and Evaluation Method:
Attendance: All Hamblen County Board of Education policies regarding attendance are in force at all times. Please see your Student Handbook/Planner for getting work turned in when you are absent.
Tardies: See your Student Handbook/Planner for the policy regarding tardies. Please note that any tardy to second, third, or fourth block results in an automatic 1 hour detention after school on Thursdays in the cafeteria. There are no warnings given for tardies after first block.
Grading: Students will receive grades for all assignments. Grade categories are homework (10%), classwork (10%), quizzes (15%), tests (30%), and projects (30%). The grading scale can be found in your Student Handbook/Planner.
Progress Reports: Progress Reports will be sent home at the four and a half week period of each grading period. Progress reports must be signed and returned to Mrs. Jones the next day to receive a “100” homework grade. Twenty points will be deducted for each day it is not turned in. Progress Reports will be sent home on February2, 2012 for third nine weeks and April 12, 2012 for fourth nine weeks.
**Grade card days are as follows: First semester final grade cards will go home on Tuesday, January 10, 2012. Third nine weeks grade cards will go home on Monday, March 19, 2012. Second semester final grade cards will go home on May 18, 2012.
Final Exam: First and Second Block Final Exams will be on Wednesday, May 16, 2012. Third and Fourth Block Final Exams will be on Tuesday, May 15, 2012.
Course Ground Rules:
All Hamblen County Board of Education Policies are in effect at all times. Please see your Student Handbook/Planner for policies relating to dress code, cell phones, electronic devices, etc.
The use of good manners will be required.
Please raise your hand to speak. Do not talk while someone else is talking.
Please go to the restroom before class. Only in the case of extreme emergency will you be allowed to leave the room to go to the restroom. (I determine what an extreme emergency is.)
Please come prepared to class. Bring your binder, paper, and pens/pencils with you. You will NOT be allowed to go to your locker to get supplies you forgot.
Late work will not be accepted. No exceptions. Work turned in early is appreciated.
Absolutely NO talking when the intercom comes on.

Parent Portal: Parent Portal is an online program that allows a parent to see their child’s grades, attendance, discipline, and other information. This is an internet based program and you may come by the school office to get your log-in information (user name and password). Parents/Guardians are highly encouraged to be on Parent Portal. This is the best way to keep up with your child’s progress. Please call the school at 423-581-1600 if you need more information.
