Mrs. Macauley’s “Keys to Success”
Grade 8 ELA
The following are the classroom procedures for Mrs. Macauley’sELA classes. Each student is responsible for reading and adhering to the guidelines which follow.
General Procedures:
- R-E-S-P-E-C-T: We will be working very closely together as a “community of learners” for the next ten months; therefore, it is absolutely necessary that you be respectful in your speech, actions, and attitudes. This includes volunteering appropriately, listening to others as they are speaking, and staying seated unless you have permission to do otherwise.Bullying will not be tolerated in any way.
- PUNCTUALITY: I am fully aware of the importance of seeing your friends between classes. However, we have much to learn this year and class time is minimal. So, I expect you to arrive to class on time. Continuous“latenesses” to class will result in disciplinary action.
- GRADING/HOMEWORK: A combination of evidence from classwork, class discussions, teacher observations, quizzes and assessments will be used to determine overall final grade. Additionally, please refer to theELA 8 COURSE FACT SHEET.
- SUPPLIES: You need to be prepared for class. This includes:
-pen or pencil-spiral notebook (minimum of 120 pages)
-ELA folder- assignment book
- HOMEWORK- self-selected reading
-SpringBoard book
If you forget one of the above, please don’t ask to borrow one or permission to go to your locker; I won’t let you miss valuable class time because you are unprepared.
- READING REQUIREMENT: You need to have a “free read” book with you daily. Additionally, you will be required to read A MINIMUM of eight books – two per marking period – and will be assessed accordingly.
- SCHOOL PROPERTY: You are expected to be respectful of your school environment. This means no writing on desks, in textbooks, or on school property. This also includes placing paper and trash in the proper receptacles – not left in, on, or around your desk. Oh, and ABSOLUTELY no gum or candy. “Chewers” get one-and-only-one warning. Thereafter, disciplinary action will be enforced.
- RESPONSIBILITY: Each of you will choose a “study buddy” for our class. This is a person that you may call to find out what you have missed upon absence. Additionally, all homework and daily activity is posted online on Canvas:
IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBLITY to find out and make up any work that you have missed. If you are absent one day, you have one day to make up the work;if you are absent two days, you have two days to make up the work; if you are absent one week . . . . After the allotted time, you will receive a zero for that assignment, quiz, paper, etc.
I WILL NOT TRACK YOU DOWN TO MAKE UP ANY MISSED WORK.
