Write Your Best Blog Post Every Time
Step 1 - Before You Begin Writing
- Who is your Reader?
- What one big point are you teaching? What problem will your insights solve? So What?
- What’s the outline of all significant points?
- What do you want the Reader to do once they’ve read your blog?
Step 2 –Scope and Frame Your Writing
- Understand the style and perspective of the business
- Identify 5-6 Long-Tail Keywords to use
- Identify other ranked sources to give your blog post credibility
- Write your Sub-Headings
- Write your Headline
Step 3 – Write the Blog Post
- The Reader wants to learn something to help them with a problem. Answer “How will this affect my life?”
- The Reader scans website copy. They don't read word for word. Don’t make them work at reading your blog.
- You are writing at a 7th-grade level. Clear message
- You have 10-15 seconds to grab their attention.Every sentence makes a point.
- Write your first draft
- Are the transitions between paragraphs and points smooth? Did you guide the Reader to the next point?
- Ask someone else to read it and answer What’s the One Big Point – the So What?
Step 4 – Rewriteand Nail the Message
- Reword your content including the Long-Tail Keywords and Sources
- Reword your Sub-Headings
- Reword your Heading (check on Hubspot Headline Analyzer)Smooth transitions. Wind the Reader down and guided to the next point
- Develop feeling words and search/select stock images using those feeling words. Add the images
- Use bullets to help make your point and more impactful to read
- Did your 750-1200 words paint a picture, educate and leave your Reader with a positive impression
Step 5 - Fine Tune
- Minimize industry buzzwords
- Find, replace or eliminate the words “that” and “and”. Make your point
- Eliminate fluffy words. Make your point
- Remove parenthesis. Say it or don’t say it
- Remove capitalization
- Verify quotes are on the outside of punctuation
- Use the same word or phrase throughout. Otherwise, it's confusing
- Reframe sentences longer than 5-7 words. Be Authentic
- Verify no plagiarism and every source is given credit
- Triple check spelling
