SARB Committee
Minutes-January 5, 2017
- Meeting called to order at 9:04 by Jim Scribner
- Members present: Greg Felton, Suzanne Tefs,Jim Scribner, Eddye Baker, Zuheit Whitney, Bill Wathen, Victor Perry, Tana Aguiar, Raylene Robinson, Rick Beatty, Jeff Blade, and Neisha Furtado.
- Approve Minutes from 12/1/16 meeting; motion to approve by Victor Perry, second by Bill Wathen.
- SARB Procedures:
- Discussion about school putting notes in aeries program concerning information about contacting families.
- Flow Chart
- Sample Forms
- If school wants to add their name to the heading of these forms they may need to change the font in order for everything to fit on the page.
- If individual schools have their own letters the SARB Committee is not opposed to using them, as long as the proper process is followed.
- A SARB Document Checklist should be made into an excel format for individual school use.
- On the “REFERRAL TO SCHOOL ATTENDANCE REVIEW BOARD” form the following changes should be made:
- Remove “Reason for Referral” box
- Factors Affecting Attendance and/or Behavior section - remove AND/OR BEHAVIOR
- In the “Interventions Attempted” section – remove School Police Involvement and add Law Enforcement instead.
- Motion to approve sample forms with changes made done by Rick, second by Victor.
- DATA Collection:
- Monthly Attendance Summary / Report
- Tracking of Truancy Notification Letters
- Presentation at Jan 30 Superintendent’s Meeting
- Zuheit noted that when information is presented at the meeting to make sure that the need for this information is for the students.
- A paper version of the report and letter information should be given to each superintendent.
- Presentation by Janelle Kelly, Employment & Training Supervisor, HHSA
- School Attendance and Welfare Sanctions
a. New bill imposes that the County Welfare can no longer send school verification reports.
b. There could still be a penalty but only if certain qualifications were met.

Chairman adjourned to open session at 10:25.
IX.The chairman announced that the Board reviewed SARB case #0020163. In attendance was the student, the student’s family, the school district and the SARB Board. TheSARB Committee will review student’s attendance at the next meeting on February 2nd in Orland.
