The applicant named above has named your institute as their Home Institute and is submitting an application for a GCRF African SWIFT Fellowship award. Your submission of this endorsement form is required for the candidate’s application to be considered complete. The purpose of this form is for you to provide confirmation that, if successful, the candidate will be granted the required release from duties to enable them to carry out their fellowship, and to provide other information on how you will support the applicant. The information you submit will be held in confidence. Please complete this form and submit it by email attachment to the GCRF African SWIFT Programme Manager, Dr Lorraine Youds at .

2.2Information about the candidate

2.3Declaration of any financial support to be provided by the Home Institute
If the applicant is successful they will be awarded a grant to cover the costs of implementing their research/project proposal: including Host Institute costs, costs of travel to the Host Institute (if required), travel and related costs,salary and research costs. The Home Institute is not required to provide financial support to the fellow over the duration of the fellowship. If your institute does plan to support the applicant with financial resources during their fellowship (e.g. by maintaining a salary or graduate assistantship or by providing stipends for room and board), please give details below.

2.4Provision made to release the candidate from teaching/tutoring activities (only required if the proposed fellowship is to be conducted at the Home Institute).
If the application is successful it is expected that the fellowship will represent the full-time occupation of the candidate (although applications requesting a part-time fellowship to balance with childcare or caring responsibilities will also be considered). Please indicate below the provisions that will be made to release the candidate from other duties (e.g. teaching/tutoring) over the duration of the fellowship.

By supporting the candidate’s application I confirm that:
- the applicant named above is registered/appointed at this institute;
and that, if the candidate is successful, and is applying for a Visiting Fellowship:
- my institute will grant the applicant leave of absence for the stated duration of the fellowship;
- my institute will support the applicant’s fellowship by arranging for a Home Institute mentor to be assigned to the candidate to maintain their links with this Institute;
- on completion of their fellowship, my institute expects to re-instate the fellow and assist them to make use of their fellowship experience in completing/continuing their research (e.g. as part of a postgraduate programme) or other work in a similar research field to this Fellowship.
