Opening Reflection
Ancient Greece is often seen as the fountainhead from which Western Civilization sprang. Government, philosophy, art & architecture, literature, science; in nearly every field of culture Ancient Greece has left a legacy that has lasted thousands of years. Individually, consider the following question: What are the contributions of America to global culture? List at least 5 examples in various fields of culture. When completed, share your examples with a partner. Are these lasting achievements? Will they still be remembered a millennium from now?

Democracy Comparison Chart:(Only complete after activities above)- Use the Venn diagramto map the similarities and differences between Athenian and American society, using the information you have collected in the activities above.
Pre-writing Activity: Use the graphic organizer to compare the factors that led to the decline of Greece to possible factors that could lead to a decline of the USA. Brainstorm in groups of two to three.Use this when composing the final essay. The rubric may be found here.
