Programme 2016/17
Wed 9 March 2016Annual General Meeting. At East Grimstead Reading Room. The hall will be open at 7 pm for payment of subscriptions and the AGM will start at 7.30 pm. Refreshments will be served and there will be time to circulate, chat, enjoy meeting other Friends over a glass of wine, and pick up your 2015 Nature Notes. There will be a slideshow on Summer in Salisbury by John Notman. Non-members wishing to join on the night are welcome.
Sat 9 April 2016National Bean Pole Week Celebration at the Barn. 10.30 am to 12.30 pm. Demonstration of woodland crafts using hazel by FOBW Neil Hawker, with tea/coffee and biscuits. Bean pole and pea stick bundles (fresh from Bentley Wood) available for a small donation.
Sun 8 May2016Spring Drive Through the Wood. An opportunity to come into the wood and drive the hard tracks to see the bluebells. Refreshments at the Barn. Gates open at 2pm and close at 4.30pm.
Sat 14 May 2016Early Morning Birdsong Walk.6.30am start at the Barn.A gentle ramble of about 1.5 miles on paths and tracks, taking about 2 hours. Followed by tea/coffee and bacon butties.
Sun 12June 2016Morning of Marvellous Moths (for National Moth Night), 10 am to 12 pm. Meet at the Barn. Tea/coffee and biscuits.
Sat23July 2016So Where’s the Millennium Pond?Enjoy a 2 hour stroll to the Millennium Pond and back, with light refreshments on the way. Meet at Eastern Clearing car park at 2.30 pm.Please wear suitable footwear for rough/muddy terrain.
Sat 13 August 2016Summer Walk and BBQ. This hour or so circular stroll will take us towards Eastern Clearing and be followed by a locally-sourced BBQ! Stout footwear recommended. Meet at the Barn by 4 pm.Soft drinks, tea/coffee provided with BBQ, but bring your own alcohol.
Sun23 October 2016Autumn Drive Through. Another opportunity to come into the wood by car to drive the hard tracks. Enter at Livery GateorTytherley RoadEntrance and come along forrefreshments at the Barn. Then drive to the Draining Field(one way signposted route) and exit via Howe Farm Trackonto Livery Road. Gates open at 2pm and close at 4.30pm.
Sun30 October 2016Fungus Foray. Come and learn to recognise and identify some amazing fungi with FOBW, Wiltshire Botanical Society and the Salisbury & District Natural History Society. Coordinator Ailsa McKee will divide us into groups with a few people picking then gather us at the end for an identification session. Please wear suitable footwear for rough/muddy terrain. Meet at Livery Gateat 10 am. Finished by 1 pm.
Thu8 December 2016Friends’ Christmas Party. At East Grimstead Reading Room, starting at 7.30 pm. Good food and wine, good company,entertainmentand a raffle. We look forward to welcoming you.

The Trustees have asked us to remind Friends that the picking of flowers or collecting of any specimen from Bentley Wood is not permitted.

Membership is particularly welcomed for all residents of the villages around Bentley Wood (Alderbury, East Dean, EastGrimstead, East Tytherley, Farley, Firsdown, Lockerley, Pitton, West Dean, West Grimstead, West Tytherley, Winterslows).
The FOBW Membership year runs from 1 April to 31 March each year. People are welcome to join the FOBW any time or at any of the events in the Programme. Please fill out a Membership Application Form and send it to the Treasurer (address on the form).
