MESSAGE: THERE’S A PROMISE ON THE WAY

SCRIPTURE : MAR 5:22-

INTRODUCTION

HOW MANY OF US HAVE HEARD FROM OUR BOSSES THAT OUR SALARIES HAVE BEEN PAID IN; AND THEN I GO TO THE BANK TO DRAW THE MONEY; ….. BASED ON HIS/ HER WORD …. You haven’t seen the money; you have no proof…JUST A WORD.

HOW MANY GOT AN SMS on the cellphone saying such-and-such an amount has been paid in …then we go to the bank based on an SMS.

HOW2Co 1:20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

(ALT) For as many promises as [are] of God, in Him [are] the Yes, and in Him the Amen, for glory to God through us.

(AMP) For as many as are the promises of God, they all find their Yes [answer] in Him [Christ]. For this reason we also utter the Amen (so be it) to God through Him [in His Person and by His agency] to the glory of God.

(ASV) For how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.

Num 23:19 God is not like people, who lie; He is not a human who changes his mind. Whatever he promises, he does; He speaks, and it is done.

Num 23:20 I have been instructed to bless, And when God blesses, I cannot call it back.

DAVID SAYS in Ps 119:11(ASV) Thy word have I laid up in my heart, That I might not sin against thee.

(BBE) I have kept your sayings secretly in my heart, so that I might do no sin against you.

(CEV) I treasure your word above all else; it keeps me from sinning against you.

MESSAGE: Psa 119:11 I've banked your promises in the vault of my heart so I won't sin myself bankrupt.

Heb 6:16 When people make promises, they guarantee them by appeal to some authority above them so that if there is any question that they'll make good on the promise, the authority will back them up.

Heb 6:17 When God wanted to guarantee his promises, he gave his word, a rock-solid guarantee--

Heb 6:18 God can't break his word. And because his word cannot change, the promise is likewise unchangeable. We who have run for our very lives to God have every reason to grab the promised hope with both hands and never let go.

Heb 10:23 Let's keep a firm grip on the promises that keep us going. He always keeps his word.

1. PROMISE OF SALVATION

2Tim 1:1 PAUL, AN apostle (special messenger) of Christ Jesus by the will of God, according to the promise of life that is in Christ Jesus,

WHERES THE PROMISE

Joh 8:3 The teachers of the Law and the Pharisees brought in a woman who had been caught committing adultery, and they made her stand before them all.

Joh 8:4 "Teacher," they said to Jesus, "this woman was caught in the very act of committing adultery.

Joh 8:5 In our Law Moses commanded that such a woman must be stoned to death. Now, what do you say?"

SHE IS GUILTY …BUT THERE’S A PROMISE

THE PENALTY IS DEATH… BUT THERE’S A PROMISE

OTHERS MIGHT WANT TO STONE YOU BUT THERE”S A PROMISE

YOU DESERVE TO DIE BUT THERE’S A PROMISE

2. PROMISE OF HEALING

Mar 5:22 Jairus, an official of the local synagogue, arrived, and when he saw Jesus, he threw himself down at his feet

Mar 5:23 and begged him earnestly, "My little daughter is very sick. Please come and place your hands on her, so that she will get well and live!"

Mar 5:24 And Jesus went with him; ……. THERE IS A PROMISE ON THE WAY

HOLD ON TO THE PROMISE IN SPITE OF DELAY

Mar 5:25 There was a woman who had suffered terribly from severe bleeding for twelve years,

Mar 5:26 even though she had been treated by many doctors. She had spent all her money, but instead of getting better she got worse all the time.

Mar 5:27 She had heard about Jesus, so she came in the crowd behind him,

Mar 5:28 saying to herself, "If I just touch his clothes, I will get well."

GODS PROMISES ARE NOT BOUND BY TIME…. IF THERES A DELAY… MABY SOMEONE ELSE NEEDED THE PROMISE…. BUT THE PROMISE IS ON ITS WAY

HOLD ON TO THE PROMISE INSPITE OF CIRCUMSTANCES

Mar 5:35 While Jesus was saying this, some messengers came from Jairus' house and told him, "Your daughter has died. Why bother the Teacher any longer?"

Mar 5:36 Jesus overheard what they were talking about and said to the leader, "Don't listen to them; just trust me." TRUST IN THE PROMISE

HOLD ON TO THE PROMISE INSPITE OF OTHER PEOPLES OPINION

Mar 5:38 They arrived at Jairus' house, where Jesus saw the confusion and heard all the loud crying and wailing.

Mar 5:39 He went in and said to them, "Why all this confusion? Why are you crying? The child is not dead---she is only sleeping!"

Mar 5:40 They started making fun of him, so he put them all out, took the child's father and mother and his three disciples, and went into the room where the child was lying.

3. PROMISE OF PEACE

Joh 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

Phi 4:6 Don't worry about anything, but in all your prayers ask God for what you need, always asking him with a thankful heart.

Phi 4:7 And God's peace, which is far beyond human understanding, will keep your hearts and minds safe in union with Christ Jesus.

4. PROMISE OF PROVISION

Mat 6:31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?

Mat 6:32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

Mat 6:33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

THERES A PROMISE ON THE WAY – PROMISE IS NOT TO FULFILL MY WANTS…BUT MY NEEDS

Phi 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Gal 3:29 Also, since you are Christ's family, then you are Abraham's famous "descendant," heirs according to the covenant promises.

5. PROMISE OF THE SPIRIT

Joh 16:7 However, I am telling you nothing but the truth when I say it is profitable (good, expedient, advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor, Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener, Standby) will not come to you [into close fellowship with you]; but if I go away, I will send Him to you [to be in close fellowship with you].

Joh 16:8 And when He comes, He will convict and convince the world and bring demonstration to it about sin and about righteousness (uprightness of heart and right standing with God) and about judgment:

2Co 5:5 Now He Who has fashioned us [preparing and making us fit] for this very thing is God, Who also has given us the [Holy] Spirit as a guarantee [of the fulfillment of His promise].

2Pe 1:3 God's divine power has given us everything we need to live a truly religious life through our knowledge of the one who called us to share in his own glory and goodness.

2Pe 1:4 In this way he has given us the very great and precious gifts he promised, so that by means of these gifts you may escape from the destructive lust that is in the world, and may come to share the divine nature.

WHY WE DON’T GET THE PROMISE

SOME MISS THEM – HAVENT HEARD; HAVEN’T SEEN

Rom 10:17 So then, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message comes through preaching Christ. …….SOME NEED TO HEAR ……

SOME DENY THEM – LIKE PETER –

Luk 22:55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

Luk 22:56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

Luk 22:57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

Luk 22:58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

Luk 22:59 And about the space of one hour after another confidently affirmed, saying, Of a truth this fellow also was with him: for he is a Galilaean.

Luk 22:60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he yet spake, the cock crew.

Luk 22:61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

SOME DON’T BELIEV THEM

Heb 4:2 We received the same promises as those people in the wilderness, but the promises didn't do them a bit of good because they didn't receive the promises with faith.

EPILOGUE

Job 15:11 Are God's promises not enough for you, spoken so gently and tenderly?

Job 15:12 Why do you let your emotions take over, lashing out and spitting fire,

Job 15:13 Pitting your whole being against God by letting words like this come out of your mouth?

My PRAYER:

Psa 119:38 Affirm your promises to me-- promises made to all who fear you.
