Primary
Activities: / Service Management - I was involved extensively in BT service management projects, especially with the (world class) billing architecture that BT was migrating towards. I was a systems analyst on the billing strategic design team. I also designed in Grady Booch and developed in C++ a tool to compare standing billing pricing data.
Debt Management – I designed and developed in Visual Basic an application to automate the debt management process for personal customers in BT.
Auditor of Projects – I developed quality procedures for small scale projects because I believed the existing general procedures were inadequate for the task. These procedures were adopted by all the software engineering centres in BT. Because of my work in this area I asked to become a part time member of the quality team and I used to regularly audit and support projects within the Glasgow Engineering Centre.
TRAINING
I embrace the challenge of keeping my IT skills up-to-date. I have put myself on the following instructor-led Oracle courses:
·  Oracle 8 – New Features for Administrators
·  Oracle 10g – New Features for Administrators
·  Oracle 11g – New Features for Administrators
and the following instructor-led SQL Server courses:
·  Implementing and Maintaining a Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Database
·  Designing High Availability Database Solutions Using Microsoft SQL Server 2005
·  SQL Server 2008 New Features
When I was with BT I went on a Grady Booch OO design and a C++ course.
I own a library of IT books (not just on databases) and I am constantly buying and studying new references.
Real-world software development
I have a practical, real-world approach to applying my computer skills and I have had an excellent relationship with all the customers I have worked with.
Interests
I enjoy hill walking around Ireland. I am member of the internet based “Dublin Hillwalking Group”. I swim regularly and I cycle all around Dublin. I have an “Advanced Open Water” scuba-diving licence and I have dived at some of the best dive sites in the world (warm waters only!). I also enjoy improving my knowledge and understanding of current world affairs.
I have been lucky enough to travel extensively and I have written a book about my travels (www.conorbrophy.com/book).
Languages
Good conversational Spanish.
Diploma from the Cervantes Institute: “Spanish as a Foreign Language” intermediate level.
