Pi Day Songs
We Wish You a Happy Pi Day
By Dianna
(Tune of We Wish You a Merry Christmas)
We wish you a happy Pi Day
We wish you a happy Pi Day
We wish you a happy Pi Day
To you and to all
Pi numbers for you
For you and for all
Pi numbers in the month of March
So three point one four!
I'm a Little Number
(to the tune of "I'm a Little Teapot")
I'm a little number at first glance (hold up thumb and forefinger about an inch apart)
Not even "four" but give me a chance (show four fingers)
I'll go on forever (make infinity sign, a sideways figure 8, in the air with one finger)
No matter how you try (hold head as if thinking hard)
I'm the transcendental number Pi (point two fingers of one hand downwards and place the other forefinger across knuckles to make the Greek letter )

The Why of Pi
(sung to the tune of either “America the Beautiful” or the Beverly Hillbillies Theme song—take your pick! )
Here is a little song about the history of pi
Circumference of a circle by diameter divide,
Three-point-one-four is just the start, the end has no location
It’s a transcendental, infinite, irrational mentation.
Four thousand (roughly)years ago in sandy Egypt land,
The measurement of circles was so hard to understand,
A mathematician named Ahmes became a famous guy
Without the use of decimals he estimated pi.
The Greeks were sure that circles could be squared and vice-versa
And they subdivided hexagons, which only made it worse-a
The Chinese got the farthest- over 20,000 sides
With decimals and zeros they approximated pi.
Now a lot of other people since have given pi a try
And they’ve tried to make it rational while others wonder WHY?
Who cares if it’s three-point-one-four or 50 billion places?
Let’s celebrate this special day with pie upon our faces!

This Old Pi
(to the tune of “Give a Dog a Bone”)
Verse One:
Number pi
Number pi
It’s irrational and so am I
With a 3.1415926
Pi Day is for lunatics!
Verse Two:
Number pi
You’re so fun
And better than one
If you think that pi are round Beware!
We all know that .
Verse Three:
Number pi
Sing out strong
Fifty billion digits long
And there’s still no evidence of any rule
Transcendentalness is cool.

Oh Number PI
(to the tune of "Oh Christmas Tree")
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
Your digits are unending,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
No pattern are you sending.
You're three point one four one five nine,
And even more if we had time,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
For circle lengths unbending.
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
You are a number very sweet,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
Your uses are so very neat.
There's 2 Pi r and Pi r squared,
A half a circle and you're there,
Oh, number Pi
Oh, number Pi
We know that Pi's a tasty treat.
Pi Day Song
(to the tune of "Jingle Bells")
Refrain:
Pi day songs
All day long.
Oh, what fun it is,
To sing a jolly pi day song
in a fun math class
like this. (Repeat)
Verse:
Circles in the snow,
Around and round we go.
How far did we have to run?
Diameter times pi! (Refrain)

Handy Dandy Pi
(to the tune of Yankee Doodle Dandy)
Verse 1:
Each circle has a radius
Diameter's its double
But try to find circumf’rence without pi and you’re in trouble!
Chorus:
Number pi is just the thing
for calculations circle-ing
Number pi’s a handy trick
For problems in arithmetic.
Verse 2:
Pi Day might seem odd among the uninitiated,
That is until with pie they’re filled,
And glad they celebrated!
Chorus
Verse 3:
To measure round a circle with a ruler is a nuisance,
Take pi times double radii
The product is circumference!
Chorus
Verse 4 should be about area of a circle. It should include pi-r-squared somewhere.
Verse 5:
Pi Day might seem dumb to some,
They’re full of hesitation,
A slice of pie invites them nigh to join the celebration!
Chorus

The 12 Decimals of Pi Day
(to the tune of "The 12 Days of Christmas")
On the 14th of March my math teacher said to me
"Three-point-fourteen, approximately".
Meaning PI: more precise you don't really need to be
Than three-point-fourteen, approximately.
In the third de-ci-mal place of PI is just a "one"
Don't really need it
PI's good enough
at three-point-fourteen, approximately.
In the fourth de-ci-mal place of PI there is a "five”
Five ten-thousandths
Don't really need 'em
PI's good enough
at three-point-fourteen, approximately.
In the fifth de-ci-mal place of PI there is a "nine"
Nine hundred-thousandths
Why go any farther?
Don't really need 'em
PI's good enough
at three-point-fourteen, approximately!
