Course Description:
The word Biology means the study of life. The Greek work bios means “life”, and –logy means “study of”. Biology is the science that seeks to understand the living world. A biologist is someone who uses scientific methods to study living things. The work of biologists can be quite varied, because organisms are complex and vary so greatly. In this course, students will investigate concepts and develop scientific process skills through scientific inquiry and laboratory experiences.

ü #2 Pencils/Blue or Black Ink Pens
ü Scientific Calculator or Graphing Calculator
ü Kleenex/Hand Sanitizer/Hand Soap
ü Colored Pencils and highlighters
Classroom Policies and/or Procedures:
1. Respect yourselves and others at all times.
2. Be prepared - All are expected to arrive on time with the proper materials needed for the day's activities.
3. Be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right thing, with the right materials.
4. No eating or drinking in the classroom/lab.
5. Follow all school policies and procedures reflected in the Student Handbook.
6. Attendance is vital in receiving credit.
7. Follow all prescribed safety procedures during labs including wearing provided safety equipment. Prior to working on lab experiments, students must successfully complete a Lab Safety Contract.
8. Students are to be attentive and actively engaged in their learning.
Classroom/Late Assignments:
· Assignments turned in one day after the due date will receive a maximum grade of 70.
· Assignments turned in two days after the due date will receive a maximum grade of 60.
· Assignments not received after two days will automatically receive a grade of 0.
· Students will be allowed to make up two zeroes per grading period. Alternate assignments will be provided with a maximum grade of 50. These assignments must be turned in prior to the last week of the grading period.
Test Retakes:
Failing tests is not an option. If you fail a test, you must do make up work of the teacher’s choosing. Once you have completed this, a make-up test will be granted. You must have retake completed prior to the last week of that grading period. If you do not make up the test by that time, the test grade will not be changed. It is to your advantage to make it up as soon as possible. Studying for tests is important and blowing off a test just because you can retake it will not help you. Remember, in college, there are no retakes.
