Who Should Attend
Nurses, case managers, and other healthcare professionals who care for patients with sickle cell disease.
CNE Outcome
To provide effective and timely pain management for patients with sickle cell diease. This outcome will be measured by self-report on the post-session evaluation.
CCM Goal
To educate CCM®board certified case managers on the management of sickle cell disease, providing a foundation for making choices about case management for this patient population.
Objectives
At the end of the educational session, participants should be better able to:
- Identify barriers (gaps) and interventions to effective and timely pain management for adult SCD patients in the ED
- Increase education and awareness of SCD and the unpredictability of pain
- Increase utilization of evidence-based management of pain/vaso-occlusive crisis for adult SCD patients in the ED
- Recognize coordination efforts/community referrals/links to outpatient care & follow-up

- Successful Completion Requirements:Successful completion of this learning activity for educational credit is demonstrated by full session attendance and completion of an on-line evaluation and attendance attestation.
- A certificate of nursing contact hours, CCM credit, or attendance will be emailed to participants upon completion of an on-line evaluation.
- All other required disclosures will be made just prior to the educational activity.
Continuing Education Credits – Case Managers
This program has been submitted to The Commission for Case Manager Certification for approval to provide board certified case managers with 5.0 clock hours.
