Each lab group will be given a kit that should contain the following and will be responsible for:
6 Black Carbons
12 White Hydrogens
6 Red Oxygens
4 Green Halogens (Chlorine)
3 Blue Nitrogens
1 Yellow Sulfur
8 Long Bonds
24 Short bonds
Hints: Compounds that end in –ane are groups that have single bonded carbon atoms.
Alcohols end in –OH Compounds that end in –ene are groups that have double bonded carbon atoms.
Acids end in –COOH Compounds that end in –yne are groups that have triple bonded carbon atoms.
List elements in alphabetical order for molecular formula.
Remember to make Happy 2’s and 8’s ands circle them.
Single bonds are 1 line, double bonds: 2 lines, triple bonds: 3 lines, cyclo and benzene are rings of carbon
You will have to borrow piece from other groups for the bigger molecules, remember to return pieces when done
