From February 18ththrough 29ththe Lasallian Teacher Immersion Program (LTIP) participants observed and conducted apprentice-like activities on the elementary level at De La Salle at Blessed Sacrament in Memphis. Each morning was spent with a cooperating teacher. This was followed by lunch and three hours of class on the campus of CBU each afternoon. While in Memphis, the young men lived in community with the Brothers of Christian Brothers High School (CBHS). In addition to the academic work, there were a number of highlights for the young men. They included a presentation by Brother Terence McLaughlin on the integration of CBC (Memphis) in 1963; a visit to the National Civil Rights Museum; a presentation and tour of the District Archives by Brother Robert Werle; and a dinner on Beale Street hosted by Brother Chris Englert. On behalf of Brother Stephen and the young men, I would like to thank Brother Mark Snodgrass and the faculty and staff of De La Salle at Blessed Sacrament; the Brothers at CBU for their hospitality; Dr. Ellen Faith and Brother Bob Veselsky for making lunch and classroom arrangements; and particularly, the Brothers at CBHS for opening their home and supporting the LTIP participants in this phase of the immersion experience. All states in the U.S. have a legal blood/breath alcohol concentration (BAC) limit of 0.08 percent. However, this does not mean that you can safely operate a vehicle at that level. A much lowerBAC level can affect coordination, judgment and other driving skills.
RULES TO LIVE BY: Because alcohol is socially acceptable, it’s all the more important to drink responsibly and in moderation.
#Don’t drink and drive. And, never ride with a driver who’s been drinking.
#Don’t mix alcohol and drugs. This can be a deadly combination, even with over -the- counter medications or supplements. Ask your doctor or pharmacist how alcohol interacts with the medications you take.
#Don’t engage in binge drinking.
DO YOU HAVE AN ALCOHOL PROBLEM?
#Do you believe you need alcohol in order to have fun?
#Have you tried to stop drinking alcohol but couldn’t?
#Has a friend, relative or co-worker or medical professional expressed concern about your use of alcohol?
#Do you use alcohol to help you get through the day or when you are feeling angry, tense, or sad?
#Do you drink when you are alone?
#Do you need more alcohol to get the same effect you used to get with smaller amounts?
If you answered, “Yes” to any of these questions, you may have a problem with alcohol. Seek help from your doctor or a mental health professional.
