Purpose

This qualification is designed for people who are employed in the digital printing sector of the printing industry. This sector covers both the digital retail environment, and the digital production environment.

The qualification is made up of compulsory standards and an elective section.

The compulsory standards cover advanced skills and knowledge as required by the digital printing industry. This section also includes understanding of business and quality principles for digital printing, and problem solving on customer supplied files.

The elective section provides the flexibility needed to cover the requirements of all digital printing situations, including both the digital retail environment, and the digital production environment. The standards will be chosen after discussion with the trainee, employer and Communications and Media Industry Training Organisation (CMITO) Liaison Officers to ensure that they are relevant to the training for both the trainee and employer.

This qualification follows on from the National Certificate in Printing (Digital Processes for Print) (Level 3) [Ref: 1280].

Replacement Information

This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Printing (Digital Printing) (Level 4) [Ref:1038] and the National Certificate in Printing – Graphic Communication (Level 4) [Ref:0817].

Requirements for Award of Qualification

This qualification will be awarded to people who have met the requirements of the compulsory and elective sections.

Award of NZQF National Qualifications

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Version 2

Version 2 was republished in April 2013 to indicate that the qualification has been reviewed and replaced.

Version 2 was republished in September 2013 following a to ensure the achievability of the qualification.

Changes to structure and content

·  Unit standard 27668 was substituted for expiring unit standard 23557, (which included reference to technology no longer used in the industry).

·  Credits decreased from 105 to 100.

Previous versions of the qualification

This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Printing (Digital Printing) (Level 4) [Ref:1038] and the National Certificate in Printing – Graphic Communication (Level 4) [Ref: 0817].

Summary of differences between qualifications

·  The new qualification replaced [Ref: 0817] and [Ref: 1038] and the title reflects the new domain.

·  Unit standards 20057 and 20099 are the only common compulsory unit standards between the new qualification and [Ref: 817].

·  Unit standard 23557 has replaced unit standard 17922.

·  Unit standard 20099 is the only common compulsory unit standard between the new qualification and [Ref: 1038].

·  An elective has been added to include a minimum of 40 credits at level 4 from the Printing subfield, thus increasing the flexibility of the new qualification. Candidates who have been awarded credit for the following unit standards 17923, 17926, 17927 of [Ref:0817], or 17925 of [Ref: 1038] will have met some or all of the requirements for the elective section in the new qualification.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards – see table below.

Quality Management Systems
Providers and Industry Training Organisations must be granted consent to assess by a recognised Quality Assurance Body before they can register credits from assessment against standards. Organisation with consent to assess and Industry Training Organisations assessing against standards must engage with the moderation system that applies to those standards.
