Membership Form

Background

Darlington for Culture Limited is registered as a Society for the Benefit of the Community (Bencom), which is a type of co-operative, and we invite you to become a member. Membership is open to both individuals and organisations.

Each member is required to hold a nominal £1 share. This entitles you to take part in the management of the co-operative, to attend and contribute to general meetings, as well as to vote for committee members. The principle is one member one vote.

There is an initial membership fee of:

  • £25 for an organisation
  • £10 for an individual

This membership fee will include £1 for your share, with the remaining amount being used for membership services and the running costs of DfC. If you would have difficulty paying this fee please contact the membership secretary. If you would like to make an additional donation to the running of DfC this would be very gratefully received with your membership form and you will be listed as a donor in our annual report. At DfC’s first Annual General Meeting members decided to levy an annual subscription fee of £10 for an individual and £25 for organisations. This annual subscription, which may vary subject to a vote by members at a general meeting, will need to be paid each financial year (1 April to 31 March) or membership will lapse.On receipt of a completed membership form you will be sent a membership pack, including a copy of the Society rules and a membership card.

N.B. If you wish to benefit from our volunteer service (i.e. you want us to provide volunteers for your events/activities) then you must become an organisational member.

Objects

The objects of the Society shall be to carry on any trade, industry or business for the benefit of the community, by any or all of the following means:

a)either alone or in partnership with others, to provide cultural and arts activities, events, services and facilities in Darlington the area of benefit, which shall include co-ordinating programmes of cultural events and activities;

b)to provide support, services and opportunities for artists, user groups, cultural organisations, creative industries and the wider public within the area of benefit;

c)to provide opportunities for the public, regardless oftheir age, infirmity or disability, financial hardship or social circumstances,to participate in arts and culture
