JOB TITLE: Design Engineer / SHIFT: 1

REPORTS TO: Engineering Manager / FLSA STATUS: Exempt
POSITION PURPOSE:
· This position will provide technical engineering interface with customers, manufacturing, quality assurance, purchasing, sales, and suppliers.
· Under the general direction of the Engineering Manager perform a wide range of window and door product applications, feasibility studies for users/customers and preparing detailed product specifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Work with Sales, Customer Service and Engineering to determine feasibility of development programs by gathering relevant customer information to facilitate development of product proposal.
· Create well-written product documentation, and application notes to communicate key information to customers efficiently and clearly.
· Risk assessment and mitigation through the use of DFMEA/PFMEA and FEA analysis
· Play a key role inknowledgetransfer bydeveloping internal standards.
· Assist the Sales Department and Manufacturing Representatives to support promotion of new products and customers.
· Participate in modification of existing products, and termination of outdated products in an effective and professional manner by evaluating product and service marketability
· Recommends new technical products and product modifications, and determining customer satisfaction with products and services and share observations and conclusions to guide future development.
· Maintain responsibility for generating and following up on Engineering Change Notices (ECN).
· Administers projects using project management and communication tools.
· Develops and facilitates product training for internal and external customers.
· Assist with cross functional Engineering duties as required.
· Perform testing on products as needed for development and customer needs.
· Work with production to modify tooling to optimize productivity.
KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES:
· Must be proficient in 3D CAD.
· Ability to present detailed project plans.
· Solid understanding of manufacturing methods, processes, flows, layout, and production equipment.
· Ability to work independently as a strong self-starter
· Strong Customer Service Skills
· Problem Analysis and Problem resolution methodology at both a strategic and functional level.
· Must be proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word
· Excellent communication and positive teamwork skills
QUALIFICATIONS / PRIOR EXPERIENCE:
· Education: BS degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering
· 3-5 years of experience in Design or Applications Engineering in the Fenestration Industry desired.
· Experience in LEAN or Six Sigma desired.
· Experience with complex multiple components assemblies a plus.
· Experience programming equipment a plus
WORK ENVIRONMENT/OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
· The work performed is conducted in a climate-controlled facility with moderate noise levels that are within OSHA limits.
· Must be able to use normal office equipment (scanner, printer, copier, computer0
· Must be able to talk/hear/sit for prolonged periods of time
· Must be able to travel domestically & internationally
· Must be able to lift 25-50lbs occasionally
