The student will:
1)Recognize and describe the meaning of courage.
2)Demonstrate and practice the components of courage
3)Have a greater understanding of how to demonstratecourage inside and outside of school. /
- Read a fairytale with a hero or heroine and discuss how that character displayed courage.
- Come up with classroom definition of courage
- Have students create their own fairytale where they are the hero or heroine and must display courage.
- Create a collage of pictures that display courage
- Create a mask of a face that looks courageous
- Utilize the “Courage to Stand” lesson plans
- Ask your students to draw a picture of 3 animals they think are courageous and ask them why they chose those particular animals.
- Have students bring in a picture of someone they think displays courage and then do a “show and tell” about each person.
- Label a bulletin board “Listening to My Strong Side” and place a stack of blank paper nearby. Invite children to use the paper to write about a situation in which they listened to their strong side, kept a positive attitude, and persevered despite setbacks. Tack the finished stories to the bulletin board.
- Distribute poster board or plain paper and ask children to create their own posters showing the kinds of behavior that demonstrate courage: standing up for one’s values, refusing to go along with the crowd in doing something dangerous, speaking out against a bully, and so on. Display the posters on the bulletinboard or classroom walls.
