The Game
- Time
- Matches are played in 2halves of 15 minutes each
- After the first half there will be a 5 minute break
- Time does not stop for free strokes, penalty shots, loose sticks, etc. except during the last two minutes of regulation time
- Players –the team is made up of 5 offensive and defensive players and a goalie. As the ball crosses the center line, each team is to keep back one of their five players on the other side of the center line.
- The exception to this rule is if a team is playing with 4 players and a goalie. In this situation the team does not need to leave a player back.
- If a team is one person down due to an incurred penalty, they must still leave one player back
- Goals are scored when the entire ball has crossed over the goal line between the goal posts and below the cross bar.
- After each half or after a goal is scored, the ball starts at the center of the court, with each team on their half of the court.
- Teams trade starting possession at each half
- The team that is scored against receives starting possession
- Playing the Ball
- The ball can only be played (shot, passed, or dribbled) with the blade of the stick, below knee height.
- A player may block the ball using their feet, legs, or body, but may not use their hands, arms, or head (or stick when the ball is above knee height).
- A player may kick the ball to their own stick, provided they do not touch the ball twice consecutively with their feet. Two consecutive kicks count as a dribble and are not allowed
- No player may voluntarily “go to the ground,” placing any part of their body against the ground besides their feet (except the goalie)
- No player may voluntarily drop or throw their stick.
- Violations of these rules results in a free stroke for the opposing team, except if the violation allows a defender to block a shot on goal, in which case a penalty shot is awarded to the shooting team.
- The Crease
- The goal crease is the rectangular area in front of the goal. The area is marked and will be reviewed by the referee prior to the game.
- No attacking or defending player may step into the crease.
- Sticks may enter the crease
