Important Palmer Lake Policy Reminders

BIRTHDAY TREATS: At Palmer Lake, students are NOT allowed to bring birthday treats to school. While this may seem like another way to squash the fun out of school, there are reasons for this policy:

  • Many students have food allergies
  • Serving and eating treats takes critical time away from instruction
  • We simply want to promote a healthier diet. There are other, more nutritious ways to have fun in school

BUILDING SAFETY/SECURITY: For the safety of Palmer Lake students and staff, parents/guardians are not allowed to walk students to class or deliver forgotten items to them once the students enter the building at 8:35 am. If necessary, students will be escorted to class by staff members and students will be called to the office to retrieve their items.

DROP OFF AND PICK UP TIME REMINDER: Students who are dropped off by parents/guardians should be dropped off in the morning no earlier than 8:30 am.

Students who are picked up by parents/guardians at the end of the school day should be picked up NO LATER THAN 3:20 pm. We ask that you stay in your car and get in line along the sidewalk to pick up your student.

Palmer Lake Students Jump For Their Hearts and Help Save Lives

Students at Palmer Lake are jumping at the chance to fight heart disease and stroke, our nation’s No. 1 and No. 5 killers. On February 21-23 Palmer Lake will host its 12th annual Jump Rope For Heart event to raise money for the American Heart Association, which funds lifesaving heart and stroke research and community and educational programs for our youth.

Jump Rope For Heart teaches students how physical fitness benefits the heart and shows them that volunteering can be a fun and positive experience for the whole community. The need to educate children about the importance of physical activity couldn’t be timelier. According to recent studies, about one-third of children ages 2 to 19 are overweight and obese.

“By including physical activity into their daily routines, kids can significantly reduce the onset and burden of heart disease,“ said Kristi O’Keefe. “By raising money through Jump Rope For Heart, we are preventing heart disease and obesity for the next generation of Americans. Kids are literally jumping into a heart healthier life while becoming passionate about raising money for other kids with sick hearts.”

For 39 years, millions of students have jumped rope and learned about heart health and how nutrition and physical activity can help prevent heart disease and stroke. Jump Rope For Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and SHAPE America-Society of Health and Physical Educators.

Please help our students help others by making a donation. If you would like to help more, call 1-800-AHA-USA1 (1-800-242-8721). You can also visit us online at heart.org/jump.
