Making your iDVD in iMovie
Now that you have your picture saved (keep in mind you can save more pictures if you like), now let’s create your DVD. We are going to stay in iMovie and click on the iDVD Tab in the lower right hand corner of the screen.
Creating iDVD Scene Selection (also known as Chapters)
Now we are going to make chapters for our DVD. The chapters are the same as a Scene Selection on a DVD, it will allow the viewer to fast-forward to a later scene in the movie, rather then having to always start from the beginning.
To create our first chapter, click on the first frame in your movie timeline. Like the highlighted one below.
Now in your iDVD tab, click on Add Chapter. It should add that frame in your iDVD tab, like the one below.
Now you can continue to add as many chapter markers as you would like. But keep in mind you do not want every frame as a chapter so click on a later frame in the movie (not the second, maybe pick the seventh or tenth frames).
After you have your chapters added, change the name of each chapter so it can easily be identified by the average person.
Double-Click on the chapter title and change the name.
Once you have your chapter titles in place, let’s export your movie to iDVD.
Click on the Create iDVD Project Button.
You may be asked to save your project, click on SAVE.
You may be asked to Render your project, click on Render and Proceed.
iDVD should automatically open up and your movie and chapters should be added into folders.
Change the Background Template of your iDVD
Let’s change the background picture of your Scene Selection Folder. We can use the picture that you created from iMovie.
Click once on your scene selection folder, so it looks like the one below.
Now go to FILE---IMPORT—IMAGE
A menu window will appear and ask you to find the image. Find the image that you saved, mine was on the desktop so I will select “Mountain.jpeg.”
Once you select the image, it will automatically appear as the background image in your Scene Selection Folder.
To change the title.
If you want to change the title of your DVD, click on the title so it is highlighted like the one below and type in your new title.
To change the background template:
If you want to change your background template, you can click on the CUSTOMIZE button at the bottom of the screen.
A menu will appear on your left-side of the screen under the THEMES Tab a variety of background templates (some with motion and music, and some without).
To customize the background to a movie or picture of your own:
If you would like to have a picture, movie, or music of your own in the background you can easily do this by clicking on the SETTINGS Tab.
In the SETTTINGS Tab, you can click, drag, and drop any picture, movie, or music from your desktop folders into the two Background windows.
Also in the SETTINGS Tab you can change your Title font, size, color, and position (if you want to be able to move your text anywhere, then select the Custom option in the pull down menus next to Position). Secondly you can change your Folders (which are also know as Buttons) position, color, and size.
Once you have made the appropriate changes you are ready to burn. You may want to preview it first to make sure that it is working properly.
Put in your DVD-R disc and click on the BURN Button in the lower right.
MAKE SURE YOU ARE SAVING YOUR PROJECT AS YOU WORK!
