Job Summary
As a senior member of the fundraising team, your main purpose is to maximise income from charitable trusts, high net worth individuals andgrantfunders to achieve annual financial targetsby engaging, managing and inspiring prospects, donors and senior volunteers. Working with the Director of Income Generation, you will develop strategies, annual action plans and budgets to ensure work is focused and targets achieved.
You will do this through working with NHS colleagues to develop cases for support, managing existing donors and recruiting new supporters with the aim of developing long term relationships through excellent cultivation and stewardship.
Key Accountabilities
Donor identification and cultivation
- Identify and research new trusts, foundations, major donors and institutional funders and prioritise opportunities to broaden and extend our portfolio and build a healthy pipeline.
- Build on, and develop, current successful relationships to maximise repeat income.
- Prepare and implement donor plans to ensure a constant pool of potential income.
- Work with influential individuals to develop an effective pool of ambassadors and advocates to act on our behalf including setting up and managing volunteer committees.
- Work with trustees, NHS colleagues, current donors and supporters to map contacts, research, make links and identify opportunities to extend and broaden portfolio.
- Work with the fundraising team to identify funders and prospects which overlap into other areas of giving to share leads and contacts, identifying links and opportunities to maximise charity income and influence.
- Manage the prospect pipeline to ensure our resources are prioritised to activity likely to achieve best ROI.
- Regularly analyse the database to ensure all opportunities to engage donors and prospects are utilised.
Proposal development and Raising Income
- With the Director of Income Generation, take a lead on working with NHS colleagues, from front line staff to senior consultants, to identify and develop tailored cases for support with associated budgets using full cost recovery principles. Ensure information is available in formats able to be utilised by all fundraisers.
- Develop relationships with NHS colleagues to ensure an effective two way flow of information, encouraging NHS staff to highlight potential cases for support.
- Use compelling methods of communication, written, face to face and through presentations, to build positive relationships and inspire support, securing multi-year commitments wherever possible. Maximise use of senior charity staff, advocates and NHS colleagues to make direct fundraising asks.
- Think creatively about how to adapt projects and proposals for specific trusts and foundations and the different approaches that can be taken.
Stewardship and Donor Care
- Develop and deliver comprehensive and tailored solicitation and stewardship plans for all prospects, donors and supporters.
- Create and deliver a stewardship programme including engagement events.
- Ensure donors, prospects and supporters expectations are being met through excellent donor care with a view to securing their long term support.
- Providing donors and supporters with personalised and tailored proposals, financial and narrative reports and updates.In particularworking with hospital colleagues to develop effective impact reports and updates in formatsthat can be utilised by all fundraisers.
- Work closely with NHS colleagues to monitor project delivery and alert funders to any changes to funded work.
- Keep meticulous records on Raisers Edge of all actions and communications.
Management
- To provide strong leadership and management to the Philanthropy Specialist to ensure they are encouraged and motivated to perform at their best, fulfil their role and achieve agreed targets.
- To work with office volunteers to help particularly with administration and research.
Strategy and Planning
- With the Director of Income Generation, develop Charitable Trust, Grantand Major Donor strategies to grow income and increase active supporters.
- Develop, implement and monitor annual Action Plans and budgets,including application pipe-line and income forecasting, and ensure internal reporting is completed.
- To contribute to the overall work and reporting of the fundraising and communications team through excellent team work and cross team working
General information
Due to the dynamic nature of the sector we work in, job descriptions are subject to review. Jobholders are expected to be flexible and may be required to undertake duties which are not described in those above. Reviews will be undertaken when necessary by line managers in consultation with post holders.
The charity’s normal working hours are 37 hours a week, but it is necessary to be flexible due to specific deadlines or the nature of our fundraising activity. You will be expected to attend some events at weekends and in the evenings.
The staff work as a team and, as a small team, we expect all our staff to support each other and have the flexibility to get involved in activities as and when it is needed and appropriate.

Additional Work
You are required to disclose any additional work you undertake or are planning to undertake for another employer. The Charity will permit you to undertake this additional work providing the Director of Income Generation and Chief Executive are satisfied that this does not conflict with the interests of the organisation, performance of your normal duties or with the requirements of the Working Time Regulations.
Person Specification
EssentialKnowledge and experience / Demonstrable success of securing significant income from charitable trusts, foundations with an understanding of grant sources and cultivating and securing significant gifts and achieving challenging personal fundraising targets.
Experience of researching trusts, foundations, high net worth individuals and identifying opportunities with an understanding of sector trends.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills sufficient to deliver effective tailored cases for support, fundraising pitches to make an ask to a range of audiences in a clear, inspiring and confident way.
Working with external stakeholders to gather project information to develop compelling cases for support.
Proven experience of developing and managing effective long term relationships with trusts and foundations and of supporting senior volunteers, staff and trustees to maximise donor relationships
Experience of developing and implementing cultivation events which inspire and engage major donor audiences.
Articulate, persuasive and credible with all audiences, including those at the highest level both within the organisation and outside of it, with great networking skills
Experience of thinking creatively to tailor proposals and approaches.
Strong commitment to donor care and ability to write effective impact reports.
Budget setting and monitoring, strategy development and action planning.
Proficiency in using fundraising CRM package
