A RESOLUTION adjourning the Senate in honor of the bravery and service of Specialist Jason L. Mike.
WHEREAS, Jason L. Mike is a native of Radcliff, Kentucky; he is the son of Mrs. Chong Mike and the late Sergeant First Class Larry Mike; and
WHEREAS, Jason L. Mike enlisted in the Kentucky Army National Guard in April 2002 while he was attending college at Jacksonville University, where he played collegiate football; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike was first assigned to the 1163rd Medical Company, and after two years was transferred to the 617th Military Police Company; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike served with the 617th Military Police Company in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, while serving as the medic for Raven 42 in the 617th Military Police Company, Specialist Jason L. Mike supported a counterattack of Anti Iraq Forces who were ambushing a convoy with heavy AK47 assault rifle fire, machine gun fire, and rocket propelled grenades; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike engaged the Anti Iraq Forces until his fellow soldiers fell injured; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike immediately pulled the wounded soldiers out of the line of direct fire and returned fire with the injured soldiers' weapons; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike provided medical aid to his critically wounded comrades when the threat was eliminated; and
WHEREAS, the United States Army recognized that his actions saved the lives of the three wounded soldiers and numerous convoy members; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike, was recently awarded the Silver Star Medal for exceptionally valorous achievement during Operation Iraqi Freedom; and
WHEREAS, Specialist Jason L. Mike is in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflects distinct credit upon himself, the 503rd Military Police Battalion (Airborne), the 18th Military Police Brigade, and the United States Army; and
WHEREAS, the Commonwealth of Kentucky is deeply grateful to Specialist Jason L. Mike for the sacrifice he made for the freedom of all Americans and to ensure the freedom of the Iraqi people;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the Senate of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The Senate is proud to recognize the patriotic service of Specialist Jason L. Mike to his country and does hereby express its appreciation for his outstanding efforts. We express our congratulations to him as the recipient of the Silver Star Medal and extend our best wishes for further success in the future.
Section 2. When the Senate adjourns this day, it does so in honor of Specialist Jason L. Mike.
Section 3. The Clerk of the Senate is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this Resolution to Specialist Jason L. Mike of Radcliff, Kentucky and to the mother of Specialist Jason L. Mike, Mrs. Chong Mike of Radcliff, Kentucky.
