Safer Internet Day on Tuesday- Quizzes, Activities, Debates & Fun!
We will be joining in with the global celebration of Safer Internet Day 2017 on Tuesday, with the slogan ‘Be the change: Unite for a better Internet’. Make your way to the library at lunchtime to take part in fun and interactive sessions, focusing on emojis, memes and social media. Mrs Toonen, Mr Terron and pupils from the Debating Club will host lively quizzes, online activities, debates and discussion, as well as games, with the aim of us all joining together to help create a better Internet.

Harry Potter-tastic – Thank you: Thanks to The Novelties Book Club and the library assistants for all their hard work preparing for a magical Harry Potter Book event yesterday. Thanks to all pupils who came along and joined in with another spellbinding event. Huge thanks to our own professors and to the Drama department – for all their hard work and time given to ensuring a third memorable Hogwarts extravaganza. A very big thank you to Mr Gray - 80 pupils saw the snakes in the special snake booth – an incredibly popular attraction, yet again. (ST)

S3 Students - Elgin Rotary Youth Leadership Award: Are you interested in developing your leadership skills? The Elgin Rotary Youth Leadership award is an exciting programme for young people currently in S3 and is open to students from Elgin Academy, Elgin High School, Lossiemouth High School and Gordonstoun. The programme takes place over the course of two days in June 2017 and is held at Kinloss Barracks. The course involves activities which are designed to challenge candidates both mentally and physically and to develop their leadership skills. Students will participate in a variety of group tasks using the facilities of the base (includingthe assault course and Laser range) and will be led by Army personnel. Participants will be expected to be fully involved. There will also be workshop sessions on leadership led by a variety of presenters. Not only will it further develop your leadership skills but is an exciting addition to your personal statement for future applications to employment, further or higher education.
The leadership programme is free of charge and spaces are limited so if you are interested in attending this, please collect an information sheet and application form from Mrs Grant (G21). Applications should be returned to Mrs Grant no later than the 6th February 2017. (KJG)

GTG (Vehicle Painter – Modern Apprenticeship): Currently recruiting two Spray Painting Apprentices for the Keith area. Minimum criteria for applying is National 4/5 in Maths, English and a Science or Craft subject. Training through GTG will result in an SVQ Level 3 in Vehicle Paint and Refinishing. Interested in a Career in Accountancy? Johnston Carmichael have a school leaver vacancy in their Elgin office. This training opportunity is a six year programme and along with studying towards Chartered Accountancy qualifications, the programme includes hands on experience working in a real business environment with a wide variety of clients. Students will work alongside experienced accountancy professionals and hopefully benefit from “a study buddy” and commercial mentoring schemes. It is aimed to retain the students following the completion of the programme, allowing them to progress further within the business.
