Overview:There are stories that have been passed down from generation to generation and some that are unique to a given culture. Some stories teach lessons through their morals while others can hold great sentimental value to individual families. We will begin the month by exploring cultural stories, myths, fables and tall tales of the world, as we share the many cultures that are a part of our Creator families and our heritages. Stories represent a natural comfortable way of communication we will read our way through many types of stories and investigate various authors. We will have the opportunity to create and become authors and illustrators as we create original stories. As we turn pages we will investigate the value of stories as well as learning some of the concepts of story making. For example; stories have a beginning, middle, end (conclusion), as well as Author/s and Illustrators/s). Our theme will be supported through experiences in social studies, language/literacy, art, science, math, visual arts, dramatic play, outdoor experiences and music.
Happenings the month & other dates to remember:
Parents throughout this unit we invite you to come in and TELL US A STORY. We would love to have parents come in to read or tell us a cultural story; to arrange a date and time please see Jennifer or I to make arrangements. You choose the story and bring in a book of your choice. It would be an extra special experience for you to tell or read the story in a language other than English. Although we may not understand the language, the exposure would be great for the children to hear as they enjoy the experience and pictures.

Where in the World Are Your Ancestors From?
Each child and maybe even their parents may have been born here in America but we each have ancestors and a cultural heritage that makes up who we are. Parents please share some of your child’s ancestral culture background/make-up. For some families it is more difficult to pinpoint a particular country but you may be aware of the region or continent which is enough. (Example: Darla I have ancestors from Africa. I identify my culture as African-American).
