Current Events:Today, we had our 1st Grade STEAM Day with the children exploring structures –building houses, making boats that could carry cargo (pennies), and matching Leggo patterns, and learning how to work and discuss ideas with team mates. It was great to see their ideas and creations! Thechorus group performed for us Tuesday afternoon, “Joust.”Please remember to send in your donations for, Monday, June 6th, if I contacted you regarding sundae supplies for our 1st Grade Reading Celebration. Please clean out your child’s book bag daily as we are sending things home. For Field Day, please have your child to wear school colors, BME spirit wear, or their field day tee shirts on Tuesday—weather permitting. If Field Day gets postponed till Monday, I am certain that Mrs. Ball will do a global connect to inform you of the change. Please send in yard sale donations if you have any gently used items.
Language Arts:In writing the children made summer birthday book pages for Wyatt and Kennedy. Plus, they wrote about their plans for Memorial Day,
Math: The children have been doing work stations relating to telling time to the hour and half hourthis week. On Thursday, we had our test on telling time. The children did awesome on this test! There are a few who will need more practice with telling time to the half hour. Over the summer use my Portaportal or the IXL Math site on our BME home page to practice and review skillson any of the Math concepts that we covered this school year or play cards and board games and to keep their math minds growing. Instant recall of the addition/subtraction facts will be very helpful as they move to do 2nd Grade Math.
Social Studies: They have been finding out why we are learning about this famous American, Eleanor Roosevelt. Watching a video, “Eleanor Roosevelt,” about her life and reading biographies about her, have helped us learn that she was for equal rights for all and the importance of volunteering.
Science: In our Scholastic News, “Koala Rescue,” we learned about Koalas. Plus, the children read about how storms are dangerous and how lightning strikes.
