Beulah Park District held its August monthly meeting on Tuesday, August 1st, 2017 at Beulah Civic Center at 5:30 p.m.

Present: Robby Volk, Kris Martens, Deb Schlecht, Rick Alexander, Jim Nelson, Bridgette Martens, Lucas Duncan, Bob Mohl & Deb Bonebrake

Absent: None

Agenda: Add Naming Wellness Center under New Business. R. Alexander made a motion to approve agenda. K. Martens seconded. All in favor. Motion passed.

Minutes: A motion was made by K. Martens to approve the minutes to last month’s meeting. Seconded by R. Alexander. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by R. Alexander to approve the Financial Report and the Profit and Loss Statements. Seconded by K. Martens. All in favor. Motion carried.

A motion was made by K. Martens to approve the Vendor Report. Seconded by R. Alexander. All in favor. Motion carried.

Staff Report:

Martens: Martens provided her written report for each of the Commissioners. See Attached report.

Motion was made by K. Martens to implement Framework Study in regards to possible removal of Lignite Park and sale of land. Seconded by R. Alexander. All in favor. Motion carried.

Duncan: Duncan provided his written report for each of the Commissioners. See attached report.

Bonebrake: Bonebrake provided her written report for each of the Commissioners. See attached report.

Mohl: Mohl provided his written report for each of the Commissioners. See attached report.

Basketball Court at McKenzie Park received one coat of paint. Tree Stumps need to be ground out.

Unfinished Business:

Batting Cages: Possible Locations include west side of Field #1 & between Field #1 & #2.

Motion was made by K. Martens to putting the Batting Cages between Field #1 & #2. Seconded by R. Alexander. 2 in favor & 1 opposed. Motion carried.

Fast Pitch Fence: Discussion has had that if fence were to be moved in would field still be useable for Cal Ripken baseball. It would be as the field dimensions are the same.

Field would still be used for Cal Ripken tournaments/ games.

Motion was made by J. Nelson to move fence on Field #1 in permanently, if and only if, Girls Fast Pitch folds, Fast Pitch Boosters will pay to move fence back to original position. Seconded by R. Alexander. All in favor. Motion carried.

New Business:

Borders @ Troy Park: Timbers are gone/rotted away. It would cost $1,800 for black plastic border to replace the wood timbers.

Motion was made by J. Nelson to approve the purchase of the black plastic borders. Seconded by K. Martens. All in favor. Motion carried.

Naming of Wellness Center: Tabled until next month.

Wellness Center: Martens provided her written report for each of the Commissioners. See Attached report.

Beulah Bay: D. Schlecht discussed the complaints about dogs this year. Would like to see a policy for a Clean-up Fee and/or a Deposit for Dogs.

D. Schlecht talked w/ Misty @ Southwest Water – would be a seasonal contract with base rate + usage w/ no cap on usage.

D. Schlecht discussed possible rate increase with the addition of Southwest Water.

Siding on Cabins needs to be replaced.

R. Wells has been using his own tools. D. Schlect would like to get a quote for Milwaukee impact/driver.

D. Schlecht is going to have a meeting with some of the employees tomorrow regarding their attitudes.

Friends of Beulah Bay – will be having a Frolf Tourney on 8/19 @ 1pm.

D. Schlecht and D. Bonebrake attended the July FOBB meeting. Meeting was scheduled to start at 7pm but wasn’t called to order until 7:28pm. They felt they were met with a Hostile approach. Suggested landscaping in front of the office as a possible project. Rug on Site 85 can be kept down all the time since it is a gravel site w/ no grass. (Corp approved).

Baseball/Softball Update: See Duncan’s attached report.

Legion baseball took the bus to the State Tournament in Grand Forks. They had a flat tire on the way. The Baseball Boosters bought 4 new tires for approximately $1,200. The tire blow-out did damage bus and Boosters are taking it to Krebs to get an estimate.

West River Transit for tournaments what do you do? Some parents did drive bus to some games.

Legion Bus – We will re-evaluate when all the numbers are in.

Discussion regarding Baseball Donations/Legion Signage. It was proposed to have a $200 sponsorship fee – to include t-shirts and Legion Sign.

Concerns/Issues: Dakota Walleye Classic – went very well.
