Volunteer Trans Health Peer Mentor
Trans health peer mentors provide healthinformation to those who identify as transsexual and transgender and gender non-conforming peopleto help alleviate isolation and related stress and promote empowerment. Volunteer training, induction, support and travel expenses provided.
Trans Health Peer Mentor Accredited Training Course
Liverpool Adult Learning Services(LALS) will host training on the skills and qualities required to be a peer mentor. Those recruited and completing the course will receive an accreditation and certificate from LALS. Free and open to those who identify as transsexual, transgender, gender non-conforming people and their close supporters and allies.For more information see the leaflet on
Trans Wellbeing
A series of wellbeing sessions on a range of issues and life skills that promote improved health of which you are welcome to attend as many sessions as you like. Trans peer mentors will be available for support during the sessions. Free and open to those who identify as transsexual and transgender, gender non-conforming people and their close supporters and allies. Certificates of attendance can be issued if requested.

Those interested in the volunteer peer mentoring coursecan book in for a pre course interview being held on Monday 13th July afternoon or Tuesday 14th July tea time. Call for an appointment (approx. 15 mins)
Trans Health Peer Mentor Accredited Training Course
Delivered by Liverpool Adult Learning Services, requires no formal qualifications and includes group work anddiscussion based learning whilst being informative, supportive and fun. As a group you will learn and support each other complete:
Understanding what mentoring is, the commitments involved and the benefits from using it
Stages of the mentoring process and setting parameters for the relationship
Understanding the nature of the relationship and motivation and how to utilise both of these to enable you to get the best out of everyone involved
Improved communication skills
Better able to give feedback
Coaching people to find their own solutions and ways forward
Know what questions to ask
Find your learning style to enable you to understand the best way for you to develop yourself and develop the people you support
Practice the skills of mentoring
Be able to use the appropriate paperwork which will support and monitorthe process
100% attendance is required for accreditation
Free and open to those who identify as transsexual and transgender, gender non-conforming people (and close supporters and allies)
Travel expenses available (proof of travel required)
Liverpool Adult Learning Service – Tutor
Jane Girvan has been delivering peer mentor training for many years to a variety of marginalised groups. Her specialisms are working with young people not in traditional educational settings and those with learning different learning styles.

Summer 2015Pre course interviews / Mon 13th 2pm – 5pm or Tue 14th July 5pm – 7pm,

Peer mentor course
6pm – 8.30pm each session / Week 1 – Tuesday July 21st
Week 2 – Tuesday July 28th
Week 3 – Tuesday August 4th
Week 4 – Tuesday August 11th
Week 5 – Tuesday August 18th
Week 6 – Tuesday August 25th
Basic requirements for peer mentoring:
- To identify with and have empathyfor those who identify as transsexual and transgender, gender non-conforming people and their close supporters and allies
- To be over 16 and live in Liverpool or be registered with a Liverpool GP, the course can accommodate limited numbers from surrounding areas
- To offer contribution to December 2015 (this is flexible)
- To complete the accredited peer mentor training course
- Volunteer within the policies & procedures, including confidentiality and equal opportunities
- To be enthusiastic, reliable & punctual when volunteering
