EVHS PreAP WORLD GEOGRAPHY

SUMMER PROJECT 2014

Welcome to PreAP World Geography at EVHS! We’re excited that you are challenging yourself to pursue excellence in this rigorous class. You will have many opportunities to practice higher order thinking skills, including being an analytical reader, strong writer, staying organized and being self-motivated throughout the school year.

You are urged to complete this project well in advance. Although you could still earn reduced credit if it is turned-in late (see GISD late policy on pg. 2), your first week of high school will be far too hectic to finish this project in a manner that meets PreAP expectations.

Please carefully read the directions and project requirements listed in the grading rubric, so that you know what elements to focus on and how your project will be evaluated.
STEP 1
READ ARTICLE / Select and read ONE of the approved articles listed below. Web links to the articles are provided, you may find them at the Georgetown Public Library or a limited number of each one will be available at the EVHS office during the summer. You are encouraged to read the article more than once and take detailed notes as you read.
STEP 2
CREATE POSTER / Create a poster (standard 22”X28” size ONLY)that includes a title, 1 map and 1+ picture(s) with captions that illustrate main ideas from the article. These should not be taken from the article itself, but should enhance your understanding of the key concepts.
STEP 3
WRITTEN ANALYSIS / Typed summary andanalysis/evaluation of key article concepts (minimum 150 words visible on the front of the poster). You should not only share details from the entire article, but analyze and evaluate their meaning and importance as well.
