Role Overview:
CSIRO Education and Outreach’s Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools is seeking a dynamic, motivated individual with strong interpersonal, problem solving and communication skills for the role of Project Officer (Partnership Support), based in Clayton, Victoria.
This full time role is part of a national team, implementing the successful Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools program. Through creating and supporting partnerships between volunteer teachers and scientists, mathematicians and ICT professionals, this initiative brings real-life practice into primary and secondary classrooms, engaging teachers and students with research, applications and careers. The Project Officer (Partnership Support) will provide advice and support for Scientists and Mathematicians in Schools partnerships to encourage and promote their success and longevity. Working in collaboration with the Victorian Project Officer, this role is integral to the successful operation of SMiS.
Duties and Key Result Areas:
In close liaison with the Scientists and Mathematicians in SchoolsNational Office and in collaboration with the other Project Officer in Victoria :
- Initiate and maintain contact with volunteer teachers and STEM professionals in SMiS partnerships
- Provide advice and support for partnerships, including responding to requests for assistance
- Organise and run events such as networking sessions
- Deliver presentations at events such as networking sessions and conferences
- Contribute to matching teachers with scientists and mathematicians
- Develop relevant networks with local STEM and education organisations
- Adhere to the spirit and practice of CSIRO’s Values, Health, Safety and Environment plans and policies, Diversity initiatives and Zero Harm goals
- Other duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Under CSIRO policy only those who meet all essential criteria can be appointed
Pre-Requisites:
1.Education/Qualifications: A tertiary qualification in science, mathematics or ICT or science, mathematics and ICT education and/or equivalent relevant experience.
2.Driver’s Licence: A current driver’s licence and the ability to travel both locally and interstate.
3.Working with Children Check: A valid Working with Children Check or equivalent or the willingness and ability to gain one.
4.Travel: The ability to travel both locally and interstate.
5.Communication: The ability to clearly convey information and ideas, select the most appropriate method of communication, and establish effective interpersonal relationships with key internal and external stakeholders.
6.Behaviours: A history of professional and respectful behaviours and attitudes in a collaborative environment.
7.Adaptability: Demonstrated ability and willingness to change ideas and try different approaches and maintain professionalism and flexibility.
8.Problem Solving: Proven ability to investigate problems of a familiar or recurring nature, by identifying and considering the implications of a range of available alternative solutions.
Essential Criteria:
9.Broad experience working with scientists, mathematicians, ICT professionals and teachers and an understanding of the current issues facing school science, mathematics and ICT education
10.Good oral and written communication skills for a range of audiences and in a variety of formats, including with individuals and groups
11.Demonstrated interpersonal skills including experience with negotiation and representation
12.Strong organisational and time management skills and excellent office skills, including extensive experience with the Microsoft Office suite
13. Demonstrated capacity to work independently and as a member of a team, and demonstrated capacity for initiative and self-motivation
Desirable Criteria:
14.Experience in teaching science and/or mathematics at school level and an understanding of the Australian Curriculum for Science and/or Mathematics and/or Digital Technologies.
