Bio/Statement (50 - 200 words, maximum)

Inspired by her lifelong passion for nature, Meredith’s background combined her interest in both art and science. She earned an undergraduate degree in the natural sciences and a certificate in Scientific Illustration that led her into an early career as a Natural Science Illustrator. She has been published in numerous books textbooks, journals and magazines.

After moving to Jackson Hole Wyoming in 1990, Meredith focused her artistic attention to the diverse wildlife found in both Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. After working with several national and internationally known artists, Meredith has developed a style that strives to portray both the anatomical accuracy and personality of her subjects while working with light, design and brush strokes to create a work of art.

Meredith strives to capture the life and individuality of her subjects with the sensitivity of one who has truly immersed herself in their character. “The Individuals and the stories of their lives is what captures my interest in my subjects. I spend as much time as I can in the field observing, sketching, and photographing my subjects so that I can better understand them and their world. It is during these periods of study that I am often able to watch some amazing stories unfold. Other times, I am simply observing their everyday lives, the way they move, the way they interact with each other and other creatures, and their individual personalities. My goal as an artist is to portray the beauty of the individual while giving the viewer a glimpse into their world.”

Meredith is a juried member of Oil Painters of America, American Women Artists, women Artists of the West and shows her work at her studio/gallery and in national shows. She and her husband have two children and live in Wilson, Wyoming with several birds, dogs, and horses.

I photographed this big fellow in Yellowstone on a bright beautiful day. When I decided to paint him, last spring, it was stormy, cold and nasty outside. I felt like his solid mass was not phased by the weather and gave me resolve to try and not let it affect me!

Dream is a commissioned portrait of one of my collector’s arabian mare. I so admire her spirit and grace which continues at the age of 30! I took off a little bit of age in the painting, but not much!
