BSL- 030 Student film/Shoot Insurance Coverage

PURPOSE

To provide a general understanding of the University's policy and procedures for insuring student filming sessions, and the process for obtaining a certificate of insurance.

POLICY

Third party insurance coverage is provided to University Film Students conducting film shoots as a part of their academic curriculum under the University’s General Liability insurance policy.

pRocedure

General liability insurance covers losses incurred by third parties due to the negligent actions of the University student and his/her film crew who are listed on the “Request for Insurance Form.”

Students , volunteers and others involved in the shoot are expected to maintain personal health insurance.

A. It is the responsibility of film students to complete a “Request for Insurance Form” and submit it to the University’s Risk Management Department at least two weeks prior to the scheduled shoot. This form is available at the University of Miami website: https://www6.miami.edu/risk-management/Forms/Film-Insurance-Application.pdf . This form may be faxed to 305-284-3405 or sent by email to . Only one request per location is needed.

B. Risk Management will review the application for approval and processing.

C. If approved, a certificate of insurance will be issued and sent to the film student by email or fax. A copy of this certificate must be maintained by the student at the filming location during the shoot, as proof of insurance.

D. If a film shoot is taking place on or within the vicinity of the University campus, UM Police Department must be notified of the scheduled shoot date, time, and location. The student has the responsibility to contact UM Public Safety at (305) 284-6666 prior to any film shoots on or within the vicinity of University campus.

E. In the event there is any loss or damage to property of the University or property of others for which the University may be legally or contractually liable, the student must notify the University Risk Management department immediately. Students must also notify the Risk Management department of any incident resulting in bodily injury to students, film crew or to members of the public while filming.
