March 15 Meeting Minutes

We are in a BIG transition right now so I highly suggest you read this email completely so you do not miss an important deadline or an opportunity to keep involved in SYB.

Next year’s youth board application is out and due April 2 by 11:59pm. All current members must reapply and meet the attendance policy and no unexcused absences are allowed.

Speeches for next year’s Leadership positions will be held at the April 19 Board meeting. Position titles and job descriptions are below. Younger members (those who will not be seniors in 2017-18) are strongly encouraged to apply.Nominate yourself or a friend by emailing Lynne prior to April 19. Individuals can run for more than one position. Speeches will begin with the Chair position and a final vote be calculated immediately following each position.

SYB Leadership Team consists of 6 representatives who are elected by SYB members. This group meets a week before each Board meeting to help create the agenda for the month and also follow up or continue discussion on any meeting item.

Attend monthly leadership meetings

Work closely with city Recreation Coordinator

Make executive decisions for Board

Support other leadership members

Secretary

Type up meeting minutes

Update SYB Facebook page

Assist leadership team w/creating monthly agenda

Assist w/attendance tracking, when needed

Community Service Liaison

Coordinate various projects for members (ex. Adopt A Road, Mayors Month of Concern, Homeless Feed)

Gather and disperse information about other local volunteer projects in area for SYB to participate in

Assist Programs Committee chair is planning programs and events

Programs Committee Chair:

Coordinate events for youth (ex. Benefit Concert, Youth and Police BBQ, TeenFest)

Attend quarterly school district meetings

Assist Community Service liaison in planning programs and events

City Liaison:

Update City Council on issues pertaining to youth

Attend Parks Commission meetings

Work w/other City departments, including police and fire

Network with local Youth Boards (i.e. Kirkland, Redmond, Issaquah)

Communicate w/city partners (ex. local school districts, YMCA, B& G Club)

Lake WA Superintendent Meeting is at the Redmond Town Center office on March 17 3:45-5:30pm

YMCA Eggstravaganza to be held Saturday, April 15 City Hall plaza 10am-12pm Email Daniel to volunteer

Brandon McIntosh from Sammamish for Standing Rock presented information regarding the group’s plea to Council to consider other financial institutions to bank with when the city contract for banking services is up in 3 years. Contact SYB member Ananya for more info

Relay for Life: Eastlake June 24 Event lead, ShamileAldossaryThis year is 10-year anniversary, completely youth-run event

Issaquah June 10 event leader, Emily Kargo 5 people to a team, each team needs to raise $100 minimum

Group Breakout discussion and planning committees for end-of-the year bash included:

  1. Food/Concessions
  2. Cheap and free, food trucks, ice cream bar run by SYB members, popcorn, cotton candy, Chipotle catering for the first 50 participants
  3. Photos/Music
  4. Photo booth with tripod setup and SYB member taking photos, post on Facebook, Instagram, and SYB website
  5. Mix of live performances, open mic and pop songs. Live performances by local musicians
  6. Activities
  7. Marketing
