Today’s Worship Plan
2 Corinthians9:6-8 “...Whoever sows sparingly will also reap also sparingly and whoever sows generously will also reap generously.”… Please notice the offering box in the entranceway; where we cheerfully place our offerings in the collection box. Your contributions to God help us preach the Gospel here in Cedar Key, around the world and carry out works of benevolence to the glory of Christ our Lord.
Welcome Visitors and Members! We hope that your experience today will add something meaningful to your life in Christ Jesus. If you are new to the area and would like more information about this church, let us know. If you are just visiting our island community, then we hope to see you again. Would you like to confess your faith in Jesus Christ and repent of your sins today? Come forward during the last song and we will assist you in obeying Christ as Lord – or let us know your desire some other time. We can arrange a time for your baptism into Christ. If you are a Christian and wandered away from home with the Lord, you may make your desire known and we will pray for God to forgive your sins, and fully restore you to Jesus Christ and joyful fellowship with other Christians.
Share the Good News! Free Bible studies and much more are available at our congregation’s web site Cedar Key Church of Christ. We also have the church’s weekly Bulletin on our web site.
Please welcome David Hogan, Director of Church Relations from Mount Dora Christian Academy and Children’s Home.

Pure Religion
…learn to do good; seek justice, correct oppression; bring justice to the fatherless, plead the widow's cause. (Isaiah 1:17 ESV)
Religion that is pure and undefiled before God the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world. (James 1:27 ESV)
Whether you look in the Old Testament or the New Testament, you will discover that God cares for the orphans or foundlings. If we truly desire to more like Christ, we will not overlook the wants and needs of orphan children.
You may be surprised about how many orphans have risen to become famous and some infamous. Here is a small list: from ancient people - Moses, Cyrus of Persia, Julius Caesar, Confucius, Nicholas of Myra and more from more recent times: Bill Clinton, Yasser Arafat, David Ben-Gurion, William Bradford, Peter Francisco, Adolph Hitler, Herbert Hoover, Adrew Jackson, Mahatma Ghandi, Vladimir Lenin, Mary Queen of Scots, Mohammed, Eva Peron, Joseph Smith, Nelson Mandela, Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu(“Mother Teresa”), and many more who are now walking through life alone.
Children become orphans in a variety of ways. When one parent dies and the surviving parent must do his or her best to raise children often with help from family, church or other outside services.
Orphans are found in all societies and nations. Missionary workers who travel to other nations will find orphans if they open their eyes. No matter how rich or poor the country, there are orphans. Orphans nowadays may be defined by the traditional method of a child with no living parent or with only one parent.
When we see children roaming the streets, they are often labeled “street kids”. There was a term invented a few decades ago called “latchkey kids”. This often referred to kids who came home from school to an empty house or apartment where a single parent could not be at home due to work.
To whom should we go for relief for orphaned children who need a home environment? Is it a government problem? By default it becomes an issue for the government when there is no family member who steps up and takes care of an orphaned child. God’s family today is the church. Christians have a grand opportunity to show God’s love in our communities by reaching out to the children of struggling single Moms or Dads – especially among fellow Christians. We help support Mt. Dora Children’s Home as one way to assist orphans. Other methods include getting involved locally. DB
