Orange Business Services Invests in a New Cloud Platform in Russia
Orange Business Services has expanded its portfolio of cloud services in anticipation of amendments to the law on processing and storing personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation within the country, which come into force on September 1, 2015
International service provider Orange Business Services has announced the launch of its next-generation IaaS cloud platform – Flexible Computing Advanced – in Russia. This service is designed for large Russian and multinational companies. The platform has already been deployed in several countries with Orange Business Services divisions, allowing customers to create their own infrastructure in a virtual data center.
The new legislation regarding the storage of personal data of citizens of the Russian Federation within the country is contributing to the development of the domestic market for data centers and IT services. In the current situation, companies only have the options of investing in the expansion and updating of own ifrastructure in order to comply with the legislation or of transitioning to clouds. In response to the growing demand for cloud services, Orange Business Services has made the strategic decision to invest in the expansion of its portfolio of cloud services in Russia.
Orange Flexible Computing Advanced is a computing platform that allows customers to deploy a virtual private data center (server infrastructure). Thanks to the self-service portal, the customer will only need one IT professional to manage the entire infrastructure. The «рау-as-you-go» approach means you only pay for what you actually use, which is important in the current economic situation.
One of the key advantages of the cloud platform is its ability to scale resources (processing power, memory, storage, backup, and network bandwidth). If necessary, customers will also be able to add physical servers. The Flexible Computing Advanced platform is hosted in a Tier 3+ data center with comprehensive backup and disaster recovery services.
Orange offers a Service Level Agreement (SLA) and 24/7 customer support. A key distinguishing feature of a cloud platform from a telecom provider is that you'll be able to access the service using Orange's network, which guarantees a high quality service in all parts of the network («end-to-end SLA»).
«In 2014, the Russian market of IaaS services was worth RUB 1.3 bln, an increase of 39% over the previous year. The IaaS market is at an early stage of development. In the coming years, it will grow at about 27% (CAGR). Therefore, the newIaaS offering from Orange, based on a highly reliable data center while providing an SLA, will prove extremely popular and in the future it may also help to overcome customers’ fears regarding cloud services», says Tatiana Temkina, Analyst at iKS-Consulting.
«Demand for cloud computing is growing around the world, and Russia is no exception. Amendments to Federal Law No. 152-FZ are becoming one of the main factors driving growth in demand for cloud solutions in Russia," commented Olivier Quesson, Commercial Director, Orange Business Services, Russia and CIS. "We are an international player with more than 20 years of experience in deploying cloud infrastructures around the world, which is why major Russian and international companies are happy to use our cloud resources. Responding to our customers' needs, we have invested in the launch of a new cloud platform».
